The heat has finally hit my part of the world, and it's hard for me to imagine continuing to work on the scarf I started a a week or two ago.
So now I think it's time to move on to summer knitting. While I am not a big a fan of summer knitting as I am of knitting during those chilly months, in the summer I shift to cotton based yarns and projects that are a bit more accessory based. Head bands, wash clothes, ipod cases and such seem to be what I work on most often in the summer.
What about you? What are some of your favorite summer knitting projects? What yarn do you like working with? I'd love to get some new ideas to keep me motivated.

It's very strange how I get a strong urge to knit in the summer when it's too hot to do it....lol.
Right now I'm working on a cotton dishcloth.....very very slowly, as the urge hasn't hit yet.

yeah, I found some cotton yarn in my stash. Now to work up the motivation to make something with it. Maybe I'll check out some pattern sites.

What about trying a different type of yarn? You can get yarn that is 100% cotton. I have made headbands with it before and they are especially good for the summer. Cotton is definately the material of choice for the hot months.

To be honest, I don't do much knitting in the summer. I might do some crocheting, or a few baby gifts (because they're small), but I just find it a bit warm. So if I do anything, it's a small, quick knit, usually in cotton. This Sugar'n'Spice cotton just started being on sale in the Michael's near me, so I think I'll do a few dishcloths this summer. That'll be it.

I've started working on some knit cotton tops for the summer, which are nice to knit and cool to wear (there's some good stuff in the book "Fitted Knits." I've also been working on snuggles as well - I started these when my dog had to be put down a few months ago, and whenever they work on them, I think of her, and do it for her. If you're interested, there's another good book called "Knitting for Peace" that has both patterns for charity knitting items along with stories of the oprganizations and addresses where you can send your stuff. It's a great resource for charity knitting projects.

i do not differenciate between summer knitting and winter knitting although it does tend to get hot when i am trying to knit a big thick winter blanket during the middle of summer but my dad usually keeps the air wide open and i am cold natured so even during the summer i use blankets i think you should go ahead and finish the scarf that you were working on scarves are usually very easy to knit and usually do not take that much time to knit so you could go ahead and finish it and have it ready to use by next winter

I know what you mean. I have a really hard time knitting in the summer. I just only knit in air conditioning :)
