Who saw this week's results on American Idol? Melinda Doolittle was voted off--leaving Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks to duke it out in the finale. Did America make the right decision? I would not have decided this way. Melinda has been the most consistent all season, and arguably the best vocalist in the competition. On top of that, she has really come out of her shell this season. She sang her butt off this week and she looked amazing too! I never really liked Jordin from the beginning (this has nothing to do with the judges pimping her--I felt this way even before she was a frontrunner). She's adorable and has a big voice, but there are some technical deficiencies in her singing that the judges (esp. Randy) have consistently ignored because they like her. I've never been blown away by any of her performances. She can be "pitchy" sometimes, but the judges let her get away with it. People talk about Jordin at 17, but IMHO Diana DeGarmo at 16 could blow her out of the ballpark. Blake is not the world's greatest singer, but at least he's entertaining. I've actually enjoyed him this season. Beatboxing takes some skills. Between the two of them, I'll be voting for Blake next week. I don't know what America was thinking this week. But I digress. American Idol is not a singing competition. Nor is it a meritocracy. If Jordin and Blake have 10 million of so people voting for them, then they are absolutely entitled to be there. Good luck to both of them. I'll be buying Melinda's CD. Thoughts, anyone?

I don't think so. I just don't see the attraction with Blake...he's a Justin Timberlake wannabe (not a good thing in my mind) and the most talented by far was Melinda. There are a bunch of reports coming out that this is already done and that the producers hired trainers, coaches, and all other kinds of help for Jordin and have already chosen her as the winner...conspiracy theory perhaps but we'll wait and see
