When I try to connect to other Nintendo DS players via the Nintendo WiFi Connection, I get the following error code: 86420. By entering this error code at www.nintendowifi.com Technical Support page, the first thing they suggest is to update my wireless router's firmware. This was my first mistake.
I connect to the internet via a wireless router to the host computer's Cable modem internet access thingamajig. My router appears to be called "Netgear WPN111" software, and the procedures for installation called for me to uninstall my router software, which sounds like the ultimately stupid thing to do, but apparently this is the new trend for techies who seem to walk on water where anything electronic is concerned.
I'd love to post links to these sites for reference, but MyLot is being totally retarded by denying me the right to copy and paste, something which is completely and irrevocably intrinsic to technological communication. Anyways, I followed the installation instructions to the very end, but was unable to connect initially. After a couple of hours of trying out various illogical Network SSID and passphrases, I eventually checked out that website that's actually just my computer's IP address or something like that and discovered that it was a passkey I needed. Anyways, I was able to fix this problem and am now connected to the internet once again.
However, here is the problem, and it's not simple. Now my Nintendo DS was giving me the Nintendo WiFi Connection error of 52103 which says something to the gist that firewalls and routers are bad because people who make technology never seem to care that technology has advanced OUTWARD, rather than forward. Anyway, I decided to reinstall the Nintendo WiFi Connection software for my Nintendo WiFi USB antennae thingy, which of course required that I uninstall the old software first. This was another mistake, as I was unable to reinstall the software due to:
"Internet Connection Sharing error."
Close to tears by this point (like always) I decided another Google search was appropriate, but by this point the usual roundabout avoid-the-explanation technological jargon was no longer amusing me with its doublespeak. I was able to discern, however, that there was some procedure to enable Internet Connection Sharing.
According to what I've read, to enable Internet Connection Sharing, you go to the Control Panel on the HOST computer (with the modem). You go to Network Connections. You right-click your Internet Connection icon and click "Properties". At this point you have a window called "Internet Connection PROPERTIES" (and NOT "Internet Connection Status). There is supposed to be an Advanced tab here.
There is no Advanced tab.
Of course, explanations diverge here to avoid becoming ultimately specific (is this supposed to be cute?). They also suggest opening the properties for the Local Area Connection and clicking on the Advanced tab. There is an Advanced tab this time, but there is no space for "Internet Connection Sharing". Instead there is vast nothingness apart from the silly "Windows Firewall" thing.
MyLot is my only veritable medium for explaining this problem. At this point, I don't even know who to ask to help solve this problem, and they'd have so many people to refer me to that it'd never get done. I can't have referrals. I know this problem doesn't involve Nintendo. It involves my computer, and Internet Connection Sharing, and things that aren't there that supposedly should be.
I don't know what to search for anymore.
