With all the technology that's available for the kids of today, games on x boxes, hand held games, videos, and basically everything already done for them, do you think we will see a decline in artisans? If they are not given the opportunity to use and develope their talents do you think this technology will make them lose their drive to be creative?

If you are concerned about the creative development of your children with regard to the computer and such just take charge of their development yourself ;You could restrict the usage of some technologies and take them out to museums or plays or seaports take them to the local airport and watch the private planes take-off.Do anything that could spark an interest or develop a hobby . I personally think a person is either born with an instinct to be creative or not and technology won't change that in fact take a look at some of the graphic designs on MYSpace and such ;The people that develop those items certainly are creative and simply used today's technology to express themselves.

I don't think it will cost them their creativity. This is where the parents come in. Don't let them be on their computers all the time. Videos should not be allowed on a constant basis. Parents should think up things to challenge their childs mind. My son has three children 9, 11 and 12 and he monitors what they watch and is always looking for something to challenge their minds. If you do it right technology can help a child enhance their creative juices. Technology should be a help not a hindrance to a child being creative.

My daughter is a teacher...need I say more? Her kids are very limited to the amount of time they spend on the computer or playing games. I have a friend however that uses it as a babysitter so she doesn't have to deal with her kids. Yikes!

No, I think that there will always be children who want to create and work with their hands. Not all kids like video games etc and many of them may play with them but just like we did with other toys when we were their age. I do believe that today's kids spend way too much time playing video games though, and there will be implications.

I don't think they will lose their drive to be creative. In fact, technology has granted them even more tools and outlets for their ideas and creations. What I will see a decline in is physical activity. Almost everything for us is automated nowadays--even walking--and I think it will lead to a decrease in physical effort for our children. The next few generation will probably be obese, or develop atrophied limbs, unless something is done to counteract the laziness that is being promoted by automation of even the most basic activities.

Well said. The obesity issue is very valid. I also encourage my grandchildren to paint, read, and other activities that promote them in using their creativity.
