what's more important ?
i choose capability ,but education background is a stepping-stone to success, right?
i'm sure what the boss will pay attention is just your ability not just your degree, right?but why ?i have the capability to do the project well ,(i just have no high degree, i just graduated from a secondary school) but the manerger gave the chance to another girl who is Master.
i feel a little depressed.
is my concept wrong ?
i don't know.

No, I do not think your concept is wrong. However, the degree works in two ways. First of all it gets you "through the door" to show your capability. Once you are able to do this your value is realized and you will be kept. It also acts as a "tie-breaker" if you are competing with someone with relatively the same capability. Do not despair however as when one door closes, another opens...
cheers,

Hi Luckywuyan!
I agree with you that someone should choose a person for a job based on their capability but, unfortunately, it sounds like in China that they are the same way as here, they want somebody who has a lot of extra education. What a lot of companies don't seem to realize is that sometimes the people who have lots of extra schooling don't always perform as well and may not do as good a job.
I sure hope you are able to get a job that you enjoy and very soon. I know it is hard to look for a job and get turned down. I had that happen to me before.
I got your message that you will be going to bed soon. I hope you rest well and have a great day tomorrow. God Bless You!!

all this things play a part but you forget the part about communcations , it is also a very important part in our normal day work . Don't get too proud with your degree when someone who could work the same work as you having a lesser pay , if that the case you know what will happend

Education is important but without capability one can achieve nothing in this world. Capability without education can go to some level. Education need not be typical as taking a degree or anything. Learning from life will make one capable to live a good life. Thank you Wuyan for asking.

Hi Luckywuyan,
Please don't feel discouraged. You are young, Luckywuyan. I believe that you can do the job. You just need to keep up a good work. I know that workplace is full of unfair situations and I also hate that.
May I know what kind of job that your co-worker is getting now? Did you ever ask or want to know what your boss was looking for? Let's us see in a positive perspective here. I believe that your boss didn't merely emphasize on her educational background. It must have something else. For someone who hold a Master Degree, she may have more work experience. Most graduate programs require students to have at least 1 or 2 year work experience. Because graduate programs are not like undergraduate programs. Graduate courses are often based on the real life case scenarios especially for business majors.
You're right that educational background can be a stepping stone to success but it is not always like that. When applying for a job, I believe that there are many "unknown" factors involved. Have you ever heard about this phrase? "It is not WHAT you know but it is often WHO you know". It sounds unfair, isn't it? I ever read that there are a few countries which don't give many opportunities to people who belong to a certain race. This is another unfair situation and this mentality condition is difficult to be diminished.
Personally, it depends on what job is going to be filled. If the job doesn't need a higher education and I really know this person can do the job well, a degree is not an important issue here. However, if the company needs someone who beyond the job well (for instance, it needs specific knowledge and skills), an educational background should also be considered.

oh,great!
thank you ,my friend.
my co-worker got a chance to organize an important English communication corner.
maybe that is because my colleague's English is more professional than me ,and maybe the company needs a good-looking girl to make it .
anyhow ,i won't take it to heart any more ,because so many friends here have given me so many nice and sincere advice ,it is not neccessary to care it any more .
by the way,in fact ,i have quitted this job,the reason i post the topic here is just i can not be quite clear on this point ,but now ,i am better .
thank you ,you know ,i'v added you to my friend list ,please approve .
best wishes for you.

I truly feel that educational background and capability are of equal importance in the workplace.
Nevertheless, I also feel that it depends on the preference of your manager.
Ideally, as I've said, both should be of equal importance, but the reality is, managers do have their personal biases, too, and perhaps your manager prefers educational background more than capability.
If you'll ask me, though, when push comes to shove, I'll probably personally pick capability over educational background. Not that I'm discounting the importance of educational background, it's just that I feel that capability would be my primary weapon in facing my battles in the real world.
Since I'm more inclined to create jobs and not look for a job, I feel that having a respectable educational background is enough.
What matters is my capability to create jobs and run my company in the future, since I feel that my education, though it helped me a lot, did not really amply prepare me to be a future CEO of my company.
I feel that my rise to the top will predominantly depend on my capabilities. But then again, that's only when push comes to shove.
If I could, I would balance both. I would ensure that I'm very capable and my educational background is spotless.
After all, why would I restrict myself to choosing either if I could choose both?

No it is not wrong. It should be based on both. Some jobs go based on merit while others base on education. I think if you have both you stand abetter chance. Personally from experience, i think capability and experience should overrule. Having book experience often takes longer to train than actual experienc. I guess it depends on what the boss wants to deal with more.
