I just read the news, about the people that have died or missing in the storms in Texas (I lived there all my life), and it still amazes me how stupid some people can be! If there is a police/fire dept barracade blocking the rode, it means stop! Don't drive around it, it is there for your protection, it doesn't mean some of you don't drive around it. Every one of the cases of people loosing their lives or missing have to do with idiots driving around barracades into rising water or rushing water! I mean come on, these are senseless deaths that could have be avoided had they had the sense to pay attention. And these people that do that, do not even give a second thought to the emergency response personnel that are going to be risking their own lives to save them! Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but dang, it just amazes me how stupid people can be! How many of you have attempted or even thought about going around a barracade, because you would be inconvienced by having to take another route around, maybe a little longer or out of your way, or maybe you were in a hurry?

As you say, barricades are put in the road for a reason and I wouldn't dream of driving around it whatever the circumstances. Heck, there could be a great big hole in the road for all I knew. Police don't go around putting up barricades for nothing. They put them up for several reasons, but not for driving through.
I agree these people are stupid and should be fined for wasting the emergency crews' time.

Thank you for your response, and as you pointed out, I agree, I think police have better things to do then just sit around thinking of where they could go set up a barracade just for the heck of it.

Yes, and as you know it don't only happen in Texas, it happens everywhere that there is flooding. Just so happens that it is doing this in Texas at the moment. So many of the people are so familiar with the roads they travel daily and they just "know" they can make it through the water, little do they know that the road has washed out or that "here comes the big rush of water" to carry you and your vehicle away.
Just like kids playing in storm drains after big rains and they get carried away and drown.
I agree, people need to use their brains when it comes to flooding waters or fast moving waters.
