This morning I started the book, The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins, and I'm more than half way through it. Fascinating and at times, hysterical stuff. Before you send me hate mail, I just want to say that just because I read something, it doesn't mean I completely believe it. I like to read various opinions on various subjects.
The book is written by an atheist who shows in his book citing scientific case studies, scientists, theologians, et al to prove that God does not exist.
Was wondering if anyone else has read this book. What are your thoughts?

I'm a theist myself, but I'd read the book so that I could understand the mind of an athiest better, and why they believe the way they do. It seems strange to me that a scientist can so-called prove that God does not exist. Science can be very limited and relative, and can only go so far to explain anything at all. New theories on scientific studies on anything are always being formed, or changed, and sometimes even dismissed later on. The study of God, or rather, the science of God, is not a material science, based on any one person's very limited material intellect and/or senses. And experiences. True spiritual understanding lies beyond the material intellect and our limited material senses. As long as we approach God with our limited, material tools (mind and senses), we will never understand His existence. And if we are determined to believe that there is nothing beyond our physical bodies and senses, then of course we will be atheistic in our beliefs.

I appreciate hearing from you, especially that you're not so closed minded that you will not read/listen to other theories/opinions. I will agree that any study can be skewed to get the results one wants. The Scientific method is not infallible. Thanks again for responding.

I've heard about the book, but haven't read it yet. It's definitely on my "to read" list.

I plan to read it eventually, but I've read so much of Dawkins' stuff that I pretty much know what's in it. I've also read a lot of reviews of the book, and interviews with him. I like a lot of what he has to say, but I think that sometimes he's too extreme in his dislike of religion. And I say that as an atheist.
I also think you'll find that he isn't trying to disprove the existence of God because that's an impossibility, and Dawkins knows that. He's showing that it highly improbable. A lot of reviewers misunderstand that and misinterpret what he's saying.
