Help with an alteration

I bought a jacket a few months ago, and I have since discovered that it's a bit too small for me. It's a fitted, lined, jacket, and the main problem seems to be that the back of the jacket is not wide enough for me, making it almost impossible to move my arms. I think the front is too tight also, but I don't plan on ever buttoning it up the front, so I don't need to alter that area. I'm trying to figure out what the best way to alter this jacket would be. If I have to add extra fabric to the back, I'm not too concerned about the fact that it won't quite match the original fabric. In fact, I think that will make this jacket look very neat. I'd really like to be able to wear this jacket soon, so any help that anyone can provide will be much appreciated! :)

if it's a solid color jacket,i'd cut it up the back and hem both sides, and put a decorative contrasting color up the new seam.maybe one of those embroidered wide trim panels. then i would put new trim also on the outside length of the collar and bottom border, both to support the new panel when it's folded, and to hide the alteration edge.

I like this idea! I'm already getting neat ideas as to what sorts of fabric would look good as the new back panel and along the collar and bottom. Now, if I can only convince my fiance that I NEED to go to the fabric store today. :)

I ended up putting a triangular shaped panel into the back, which gives the jacket a bit of a flared "tail" at the bottom of the back. It ended up looking pretty nice, and it fits SO much better now! Now, to find 15 more buttons that need to be replaced. :)

well i am sorry to be the barrer of bad news but i am pretty sure that when clothing is too small it is almost impossable to make it larger the only way to make it larger that i know of at least is if the garment has alot of extra material that you could let down or if you find the exact same material matches and just add on to it but doing the second suggestion is very hard to do and makes the garment look rather tacky somethimes
