VCR and DVD player. Do you own both, one or none?

I had over 300 movies on VHS tape, some I bought, some I recorded off TV. Then DVD's came out so now I have about 50 movies so far on DVD. I am not going to go out and re-buy those 300 movies so I'm keeping both my VCR and DVD player for a very long time!

I do still own both- I am like you and have numerous vhs movies- Alot of them are older ones- I have a dvd/vcr combo in my living room and dvd players in the other rooms- so we can watch vhs in the living room only. Someday I'm sure it will break and they won't be selling the VCR's anymore- but I'm keeping it til it does.

We just had to buy a new VCR about 4 months ago. They are getting VERY scarce anymore. I find this a little weird considering how long the VCR has been around. There has to be millions of households that have a ton of movies on tape.

I have a combo DVD/VCR/TV with Stereo built in... and I found this sitting on the curb on trash day! :)
You wouldn't believe the stuff that college kids throw away simply because they don't want to move with it... some of it is practically unused... VCR's are probably the most thrown-away item because nobody seems to want them, given DVD's, DVR's and Video IPod's and stuff like that...
I have seen old-school big screen TV's with all the stuff built-in sitting on the curb, too!
The amount of techno-trash is amazing, considering what this stuff costs when it was new... so don't worry, folks... go visit a college area on trash day and you are bound to find what you want... just leave the "pride" at home and get the good stuff, it's fun and a fine thing to do for yourself, the Planet and your budget! :)

I have a vcr and dvd recorder. I copied all our videos onto dvds and cleared up a whole cupboard :) I made copies of all our family videos from when the kids were little and made them copies to keep too. Even an ordinary vcr can be hooked up to a dvd burner to make the copies.

We don't have a dvr yet but that's our next electronics purchase so I can clear out the boxfuls of VHS tapes.

Up until Christmas last we did own both, but the VCR developed a problem and it swallowed a tape and wouldn't spit it out again, it actually cost more to repair it than replacing it and seeing as VCR's are ancient and it's all DVD's now we never bothered replacing it, trouble it, it's damn expensive having to replace all my favourite videos to dvds! And DVDs are far more expensive that videos were, hmmmm think we're being ripped off as always lol!

The only reason I have a DVD is because a movie that I was looking for was only on DVD. I have about the same amout of VHS tapes as you do and I couldn't replace most of them if I wanted to. There are movies and live t.v. shows that are not on DVD.

I do not own either one. We use to until my son moved out and took the vcr/dvd. He moved in February and I have not had the money to buy a new one.
I want a DVD/VCR and DVR all in one.

My son who is 27 now has hundreds of videos he collects Elvis and DR Who , he also has hundreds of others too ,
I lately bought him for his birthday a machine which records Videos on th DVD's .
He has done about 50 so far and has donated the videos to charity, you would not believe the difference it had made to his cupboard where is stores them .
There is just so much more space and they will last a lot longer on DVD too , only problem is he is still buying others too lol xx

I own both a vcr and a dvd player. But the vcr is in serious need of a good cleaning. So, we mainly use the dvd player. I joined a dvdv club just before christmas so my dvd collection has been growing. But I still have a lot more vcr tapes than I do dvds.

I have a tape and cd movie player. But I think the tape one is nearly a fossil as we hardly ever use it. Now it's just pop in the cd and watch the movie, plus all the options a dvd player can give you that is more complicated on the VCR. Choosing subtitles, going to a particular scene, choosing extra scenes... Plus the VCR would sometimes give problems like trying to swallow the tape.

I have a few VHS apes sitting around from years ago, but we pretty much only use DVDs anymore. We have agtehred a very large collection as we live in an inclement environment and they are life savers when it is bucketing down.

I own both a VCR and a DVD player. The DVD player is also a recorder and has a VCR. I transferred my VHS tapes to disks. Some of my tapes were getting a bit brittle, but they were good enough to transfer. Had I not done it when I did, I might have lost them for good.
I love being able to do this because I was able to make myself copies and also copies for family members of cherished get togethers and events. It was a bit time-consuming, but well worth the effort and cost.

This has cost people thousands, trying to upgrade their videos into dvds! When my video went wrong I decided not to replace it, as you can't get videos now of new released films and can you still buy them new? Probably not, I haven't seen any, it's all dvd players, not that they are expensive, the expense comes as I am still trying to build my dvd collection up, and what do I do with all my old videos? I've got hundreds, no one wants them any more so I give them to charity. So what happens when the dvd is replaced by another machine? aaaah technology can be an expense

My son bought my husband and I a DVD player last Christmas and we don't use it very much. We have pay per view on television so if we want to watch a movie we just do it that way. I do on oncassion watch a DVD movie but not very much. We have a big screen television now and I have watched more movie on DVD's than I had watched for the whole year after we got the DVD player. Since it is really enjoyable to watch a movie on a screen like that I guess that is why I watch them now. I don't have a VCR player.

You must be a videophile like me...I must have just as many movies on VHS tapes as you do, and a growing collection of DVDs...so yup, have both VCR and DVD though I confess to watching the DVDs more..eventually I would like to get some of my tape movies in the DVD format..I do like the extras that are available on DVDs that they don't have on tape And it is so much more convenient to go directly to a "chapter" on a DVD than trying to find the right place on a tape

Yep I'm definitely a videophile! I hope one of these days to get one of those combo VCR/DVRs so I can copy my tapes to DVD. I'd love to be able to dump a lot of my tapes. I've got huge boxes full of them.

We have both VCR and DVD player. We haven't watch the VCR in a long time but it still works. We watch DVD's now. We will keep it and the tapes so my grandaughter that just turned 3 years old can watch some of the old VHS movies.
