Any ideas about how to fix the situation?

I would love to know if any of you have any ideas of what we can do about the recent attack of random deletions of really good, harmless, non-violating posts? I wish I had a ggod answer other than pm mylot, as we see that so far this is not working!'Give your ideas, vent, scream, yell, what ever you feel needs to be done!

I'm not sure what they go by when they delete a discussion, since sometimes one discussion stays up while another one of the same nature gets deleted. But if it is indeed a rogue moderator, mylot might already be trying to find the moderator responsible and just needs to find the right person,in order to take action.

I hope that they can find that person if that is the problem. I would not want the wrong person to pay for it. I also wonder if it is, sometimes a glitch. Thank you for posting.

I don't think we will ever figure that out, it seems to change from time to time. If it is a wayward moderator, I do hope it either stops or mylot stop it!

On a very similar vein recently I said there is a Golden Rule in business .. to succeed you must keep staff and ordinary members seperate .. I've been around on the Internet for 10 years .. I've seen many a web site go under for allowing well meaning members to do jobs that should only be given to actual staff members .. it doesn't work .. the 'volunteers' try to make themselves more important and to keep their priviledged position .. and inevitably that means they 'rule;' woth an overly heavy hand ... My only advice to MyLot is to get itself sorted .. do it's admin itself instead of taking the cheap way out using volunteers .. and then .. perhaps, possibly .. it may regain it's otherwise good status on the Internet .. because at present I am seeing many forum chats about 'pathetic' MyLot and even betting as to when it will fold .. So come on MyLot get some transparency in your business .. and sort out your admin issues .. your customers demand it ..

I hope that they can get it all straightened out soon. I think I may go surfing for some of the trash about mylot and see what I can see. I truly hope that mylot does not fold, but does bend with the wind and get on the right track. You have made some very good points and I hope that mylot reads this.

That's a very important point you made! Staff and members have to be separate.

Sadly you are right .. you should see some of the things I am reading in various forums .. if I put them in here I would definitely get banned .. but they are mainly to do with MyLot 'losing it's way' in an administrative fashion ...

Gabs I wish any one of us had a way to figure this out, but I fear it is adm. job. I am sure they are aware of the problem, if they can only get it fixed, now, before we lose a lot of good people for good. Patootie I can only imagine what is being said on other sites. I have not been 'around' the Internet long, but I saw what happened on duno, bad management, or even a few users can ruin a site fast.I do hope they can 'find their way' and get this under control.

Hello tammy. I have already used up enough spaces here to rant and vent. I am getting numbed with all this bizarre thing going on at mylot. Points are losing as well as star rating. I think mylot decided to do a complete cleaning service here everyday. I really don't know what discussion to post anymore. "sigh"

I know you have seen the effects also. I have not seen you around as much, charms, I hope you are well, and it is only because I have not been at the same places as you have been.

I feel a lot of discussions are being reported to settle scores ,not due to violation of guidelines.,but the people reporting it don't delete it and I think neither do the admin. If the quality of moderation can be improved then I think this is an easy one to troubleshoot.I have been spending less time on mylot because some of my friends have been posting less and they are posting less because some of the fun is being robbed away and the deletion problem also gets some credit for it.Many sites bigger than Mylot have good moderators who tell it exactly as it is and when the discussions violate the guidelines they are deleted or warned. It all breaks down to moderation. If the moderators are well chosen then this problem will disappear like we never heard it.Any other measure will only be a temporary solution and this problem will keep resurfacing until the moderator issue is addressed.

I was sole moderator on a well known DVD rental site for a number of years .. only once did I have a complaint sent to the company about the way I 'ruled' the site .. and the complainer hadn't realised it was a web site for families with children .. and that many children were members of the forum .. So my altering of his forum language and my private written request to moderate his language was quickly understood .. the forum was always a happy place to go .. lots of information about movies given by folks of all ages .. and when the company was taken over and the forum sadly closed .. I had numerous thank you emails and many folks wrote to the company to thank them for having such a friendly host moderating the forum .. Yes, some folks did try and 'score points' off me .. but at all times I remained professional .. and never, ever was I given reason to remove anyone from using the forum .. and all problems were dealt with swiftly and openly .. And that's how MyLot must ask it's moderators to rule .. openly .. to absolutely follow the moderating guidelines .. don't get involved .. if it's about a friend get another moderator to deal with the issue .. A good moderator is one who works quickly and honestly .. one who doesn't make waves .. and is to all intents and purposes an 'unseen angel' who calmly fixes problems, helps those who need it .. and remains in the background at all times ..

I think we all agree that a visible moderater is a good idea. I think the ones on the other sites I am on handle it well and don't get into any of the spiffs between the members but deal with the violations fairly. I don't know why it is different here. I have always had faith in mylot fixing problems in a timely fashion, but lately, I have lost some of that faith. I do hope it can be restored before to many of us here lose all faith and go elsewhere to play.

I completely agree with the last paragraph.I have been on sites where moderators were constantly thanked for their fairness and jurisprudence. They always left a note beside the post they moderated so the user was never confused and when there were any questions/ambiguity they were welcome to private message the moderators.I don't know if leaving a note will work on this site ,but what I am sure of is a better moderation will solve many problems showing up at the moment.

I don't have any answer but I want to add it wasn't just discussions a whole slew of my Highland Games images tha I took myself got deleted for no reason I know of. They were all my own phots and just bagpipers doing their thing, and the heavy athletes throwing their cabers and hammers and so forth. I am so disillusioned I can't even be bothered to email mylot and ask why they did this. I have seen so much of this type of thing going on it seems like they can only tell us there are so many glitches before no one listens to them anymore.

It doesn't matter what we do, because Mylot will do whatever hey want to do. and that is a fact. Maybe if we all got together, and complained to Mylot, who knows, I am tired of trying to figure out Mylot.

I agree, there is no figuring mylot out, cause when you think you have, they change everything! Maybe if we ALL post discussions about the recent deleted posts that are not violations, it will get them thinking about it.

It would not be spamming if different people posted about it. It may fall under the guideline that we are to search for things before posting, but obviously, no one does that here.

I would write an inquiry letter to the staff of MyLot to find out what the reasons are behind any deletion. They only know for sure.

I suggested this to one of my newer friends that seemed to have this happen to her. I told her she should start saving all her created discussions as word docs. This way if she is 100% sure she wasn't in violation of any rules and someone just reported her for no reason and mylot deleted without checking validity of abuse, she could repost the discussion. This way all the hard work we put into quality discussions would not be wasted.

This still happens even now, there are probably a number of MyLot Moderators who lack a sense of humour or don't really understand proper English, who take it upon themselves to hunt out discussions to delete, possibly because of a few complaints, and not even bothering to check properly if the complaints are justified. I did see a discussion from someone who claimed to be a MyLot Moderator who was having a fight with another Moderator - 1st one claimed that the other was just deleting all posts (including his own) for no real reason.

I simply don't understand why the concerns of the members are being ignored. Enough posts are being made, enough people are disallusioned, many have sent PMs in an effort to determine how their deleted post violated the guidelines. Is it too much to ask what's going on. Maybe they don't want to admit that there is a real problem. Rumour has it that it's a rogue moderator.

I doubt there will ever be any answers to these questions. I imagine that any of the deletions that didn't violate the guidelines were posts that were reported by members who were jealous or upset with other members over something. I doubt that it would do any good to pm myLot though, but you could always try if it makes you feel better.

I sometimes feel like it might help to blow off some steam in a pm, but you're right, it just makes me madder when I don't get a response.

Tammy, The answer to your question is quite simple. Very simple indeed. You need to go to the hardware store. Go to the clerk and ask for...............................the biggest tube of Super Glue in the store. Then come back here and super glue all of your discussions and postings so they can not be lost, stolen, copied or deleted. Now I know you are a crafty woman....so get out your art supplies and create a "Super Glue" button on your keyboard. Then each time you post a discussion, use the "Super Glue" and the "Post Discussion" button together. In fact, just super glue the two buttons together so you will never forget to use the "Super Glue" button. P.S. Good Lord, don't get me going about the Duct Tape.

It is okay marcia. Royal is one of VERY BEST friends and she is not being mean, but funny. She is just looking at the funny side of things and trying to lighten an other wise touchy subject. We all think that mylot is not going to do much about it, and this sounds like as good an idea as any other, that is if we really could do this, of course until I can fix my profile page, I doubt I can do anything like that!LOL

Okay, I will try to get that on my list of things to do. 1-Get super Glue 2- learn how to do html, and other computer stuff 3- figure out how to add things to my profile 4-glue post and adhere buttons together Anything else to add to my list!? I LOVE duct tape, it is the greatest thing since sliced bread!LOL

I haven't had any deletions, so therefore I really don't have anything to vent about. However I do feel for those that are losing they're discussions for no appearent reasoning, its just sad. I would like to get down to the bottom of this, with mylot at our sides helping fix the problem. I wonder whats really going on, good luck to you in your attempts at getting it fixed.
