Do you have fruit trees or nut trees in your yard and do you actually eat off of them? I have a pear tree, a mulberry bush and a walnut tree in my yard. I definitely eat the pears, they are so delicious. I usually pick several times in the fall and hand them out to the kids in the neighborhood and keep the rest for us, family and friends. The last of the ripened fruit before winter I leave for the critters. I can rarely get anything off the mulberry bush, the birds always beat me to them! The most I get to see of the mulberrys is the purple bird droppings on my car! I leave the walnuts alone. The squirrels like them but the tree isn't quite old enough to produce good edible walnuts yet. In a couple of years they should be really good to eat. I'm thinking about planting an apple tree. I used to have one at the house where I grew up and I loved those apples, right off the tree, in pies, apple butter, etc. I miss that tree.

We have a navel orange tree in our yard. That is the only fruit tree. I did put in a mini garden this summer. I put in squash, cucumbers, green beans and two tomatoe plants. I have several cucumbers but and lots of blooms on my green beans.

I'd love to have some kind of citrus tree but they don't grow around here, I'm just a bit too far north. :( I had a dwarf orange tree in the house once, little tiny oranges about 1/2 inch across. It made the whole livingroom smell so fresh, I just wished they had been edible. I hope your garden is still doing well, nothing like vegies fresh out of the garden.

Well, I live in an apartment so I do not have fruit trees in my yard. I am glad that you enjoy your fruit and nut trees. When I get my own place I would like blueberries and strawberries and a apple tree and peach tree sound yummy too. I do like pears also so maybe one of those also.

I wish I had more room in my yard but it's very small. If I had a bigger yard I would have several more fruit and nut trees for sure. I've been thinking about getting some dwarf fruit trees that I could keep on the porch or even in the house but I have such a problem with arthritis I don't know if I could carry them outside and back in every day. I'd have to get a growlight for the days when I'm not up to it. There are so many varieties of dwarf trees out now it's almost too tempting.

Right now we don't, but we have plans for some peach trees, they grow pretty well in our area. We just put in some grape vines, raspberry plants, and have a booming strawberry crop! We also want to "branch" out ,haha, into a veggie garden. There's also wild rhubarb, we could make some great strawberry rhubarb pies.I was also recently checking into planting blueberry shrubs, i didnt know that you had to have a boy and a girl plant.LOL, How the heck do you check??

I don't have any fruit trees where I live now. I had a pear tree in the yard where we did live but it only flowered, never produced any fruit. When I was growing up we had apple trees and walnut trees and use to eat from those.

Well we have lived in this same house since I was 8 yrs old. We had a pear tree that was actually our neighbors but was right next to our garage, so we always picked the pears but then when they sold the house the new folks cut it down. I went outside about 10 years ago and they were cutting down trees that were close to the house....I came out too late to stop them...it fell as I opened the door. They didn't even know what kind of tree it was.. Then there was a cherry tree that was in our back yard between ours and theirs...they cut that down while clearing out the pool area.....again they didn't know it was a cherry tree, they just figured it would drop leaves too close to their pool...grrr We had a peach tree that grew on the other side of our yard...it got hit by lightning about 5 yrs ago...but a huge branch of it rooted after being piled behind the garage....yeah we were so excited..it happened all on it's own. It has been growing there until now....I don't think it's coming back this year sadly. We do have a mulberry tree...the birds love and blackberry bushes that the birds also love. I'm thinking about planting an apple tree this year...we'll see.

That's sad about the neighbors trees, what a waste. I wish I had more room in my yard so I could plant a bunch of different fruit trees. At the house I grew up in we had a cherry tree and an apple tree, black raspberries, wild grapes and 2 huge mulberry trees. Hope you get your apple tree!

We use to have some plum trees. We had about ten plum trees. We cut them down because they was giving us too many problems. People would just come on our property to pick some without asking and then they would eat them and just spit the seeds on the ground. But I wish we still had them because they were some good plums, juicy yellow plums.

Oooo I love plums. We've been lucky not to have people just walk in our yard and pick pears. But every year when I go out picking I hand pears out to the neighborhood kids. Some come back and ask if they can have more to take home to mom and brother and sister, etc. We usually have so many I don't mind. We have more than we could ever eat ourselves.

We only just moved into our house in February but we have a peach tree, a walnut tree, and a hazelnut tree. There is another tree in the yard that I think is a plum or cherry I am not sure and I don't know if the fruit it is growing is edible.

We don't now at our new house, but when we lived in Florida we had orange and grapefruit trees. It was good getting the fruit off the trees. I was renting a house from a friend, and was taking care of her critters-dogs, cats, pot bellied pig, chickens, ducks lol. That pig loved to eat the oranges when they fell, it was funny to watch him...

Good morning Craftcatcher, Why yes, we do have fruit trees. We have Mulberries, Grapes, Peaches, Apples, and Blackberries. And, I've just purchased two 'fruit cocktail' trees, which are peach trees grafted with plum, nectarine, and a couple other types of fruit. They haven't arrived yet, but hopefully in a few years we'll be munching on more fruit from our yard. We put the apple trees in about four years ago, and for the first time, they are covered with little apples. Last year, and the year before we only got one, then two apples. But, the honeybees came to the rescue this year, and pollinated like crazy. So, we'll have oodles of apples this fall. This is also the first year that the mulberries will fruit. I've already purchased a bird net, to cover one of the three. That way the birds can have the fruit from two trees, and we'll have the fruit from the third. Our peaches were zapped by a late frost this year. So, we'll only get a few peaches. That is if the birds don't get them first. I love to eat fruit fresh from the tree. I don't use any chemicals in the garden, so I don't worry about more than a quick wiping off of the fruit before I dive in. A quick suggestion about planting an apple tree -- if you can, try to plant at least two. You may need to plant the male and female version to get proper pollination. If they are self-pollinating, you'll still get better cross pollination with two. Which will give you more yummy fruit to feast upon. Enjoy!

I have 2 apple trees in my yard. They are only 2 years old. The one tree and none from the other. This year one has around 100 or more apples already turning red and 6 on the other. They are a Honeycrisp and a Haralred. The first apples were from the honeycrisp and they were delicious. Check out my pages I have a discussion with a recent picture of the huge amount of apples on them. If not I'll take another if needed. Hahahaha! I do a lot of photos here onmylot if you look at my pages. Thanks and have a great day/evening. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

There is an old country saying - 'A woman, a dog and a walnut tree, The more you beat them, the better they be' Now taking only the walnut tree - haha - there is evidence that if you distress the tree you 'frighten' it into producing more fruit. How you keep the pesky squirrels off is another topic. They, like birds, are the perfect test to see if the fruit is ripe. We used to have pears in our garden but they are the perfect lure for wasps and hornets.

No fruit trees for me. I am renting this house and the owners get to decide what kind of trees. I have always dreamed of having fruit trees in my yard and being able to pick and eat the fruit. Growing up, several of our neighbors had fruit trees and let us pick the fruit -- peaches, pears, plums, nectarines, lowquats and guavas. Someday I'll own my own land and plant all the trees I want.

When I was a child we had a peach tree in our backyard. But we never got to eat the fruit from it. Our next door neighbors would climb the fence and take it all. Sad, but true. My parents currently have an apple tree in their yard, but I don't know if they have ever eaten any of its fruit.

When I was growing up we had an apple tree, a cherry tree, grapes, raspberry bushes, and mulberry bushes. We would trade others who lived in our town for the fruit that they grew and we didn't. I couldn't believe the things that my mom was able to do with all of that fruit. Last year I bought my first house. In our back yard we have a mulberry bush. This year I planted a couple of thorn less raspberry bushes for the children. I want to share some of my childhood memories with my children.

Plum Tree - Delicious English plums!
I don't have trees in my yard. However I remember when I was young my father had a huge avocado tree which bore lots and lots of quality delicious fruits. I will never forget how good they tasted! I wish I had a picture of that beautiful tree. I share here a picture of a beautiful and bountiful plum tree.

We don't have any right now. But we are planning on planting an orchard on part of our farm. We can probably only handle apples, plums and cherries in our climate. Nothing citrus, unless I plant dwarves in the greenhouse. I hadn't thought of nuts, so maybe that's a good option, too.

I have blueberry bushes in my yard, but they have never produced more than a handful of berries. The soil here is too sandy and has very little nutrients, so I have to really fertilize to get anything. I still plan on trying some other things, tho. I'd like to plant some blackberry bushes and maybe an avocado tree and see what happens.

I have a pomegranate tree in my yard. I don't eat the fruit from it but I use them to decorate with alot. I have even used the seeds to help color some items red for a decorating project. We had fruit trees in our yard when I was a little girl and we ate from them all the time. Cherry tree, apples, pears.... it was great.

I have two big black walnut trees; I would guess that they are forty year old trees. I also have chokecherries which the birds love.
