is there a difference between ipod video and ipod mp4? and what's with that 2nd generation thing? im confused, my friends are saying different things

Nopes..its all the same. I have an apple ipod video player. The software i got with it firstly converts the videos i want to upload on my ipod into the mp4 format and then it transfers it to the memory. So all the video being played in the ipod are of mp4 format.
