Adderall Dosage Amounts?

Why isn't Adderall available in smaller dosage amounts after 5 mg? Ok so I finally bit the bullet and have been giving my daughter the Adderall XR that her pediatrician prescribed. It's a 5 mg capsule. She's been taking it since May 14th. The problem is, I haven't really seen a difference in her behavior. I haven't spoken with her teacher and I don't need to. My daughter brings home all of her papers on Thursdays and there hasn't been any improvement in her grades. The only plus side has been that she hasn't experienced any side effects. Of course, this could be because the dosage is too low. I was ready to call her pediatrician when I realized that if he were to increase the dose, what exactly would he increase it to? So I looked it up at drugs.com and discovered that according to them, Adderall comes in doses of 5 mg, 10 mg, etc.. That's quite a leap. From 5 mg to 10 mg. If it's recommended that you start your child at the lowest dose and increase from there, why on Earth would you start someone at a dose and if that dose isn't working, DOUBLE it? Do you DOUBLE a dose with any other medication? If you're taking allergy medication or cholesterol medication and it isn't working that well, does your doctor DOUBLE it? NO. Instead of increasing it by 2 mg, then 3 mg, I have to DOUBLE her dose. That is just insane! I am having a really hard time accepting this because it just seems so totally and completely crazy to me! Since I'm basing this solely on the information at drugs.com, I would love to hear from anyone who has been in this situation and hear what your doctor prescribed. Maybe there's a tablet that can be cut up? Thank you!
