Tonight my family and I had a casual dinner in front of the television. We ate our meals as we watched a movie. We don't do this very often, but sometimes we all just want to relax and eat in fron of the televsion. How about you? Do you enjoy eating while watching television or do you think that all meals should be taken at the table?

Sometimes i do watch television while having meal at home. As i just want to watch my favourite comedy shows or any musical show while eating food. So that i can relax and be entertained while enjoying my food. I know it can be distracting so i try to chew food and eat slowly and focus on it. One also saves time as one is watching TV and eating food at same time if we ensure both at same time. Cheers:)

in fact, i have my dinner every night in front of a tv. i cannot afford to spare extra time to watch a television hence i make it a point to have dinner while watching tv. this way, i can have a look at the days happenings across the world by watching news.

Eating dinner in front of the tv is a nightly thing at my house. I know it probably sounds bad, but it's a habit we have gotten into. We didn't do it when the kids were little. If my husband is home for dinner and not working late, we watch tv in the living room and watch one of the shows that we DVR. So we are still spending time together.

I always do that to eat in front of the television.. but if I have a child I need to change it to discipline them...It's very exciting and relaxing because me and my husband work for 12 hours a day..we have no time to watched tv.. Last summer vacation my niece came to my house for her vacation..her habbit is to eat in front of television..I want to change it for her sake..she eat slowly...Now she can eat in the dinning table with her family..

Personally, to me, it doesn't matter very much but if I were to choose, I'd prefer not eating infront of the tv because it's distracting. Usually I eat my dinner straight after coming home from school (around 5PM). I prefer eating at the kitchen table then because I eat quickly and immediately go to shower and then start work. Sitting infront of the tv while eating is somewhat distracting in that case, since after I'm done with dinner I waste time watching tv for another half hour or so (usually Seinfield). My family never eats dinner together. I eat whenever I'm hungry or straight after coming home from school, and my father eats straight after coming home from work (around 9PM). I don't remember the last time I saw my mother eat a full dinner at all; she just snacks on things.

I can't tell you the last time I didn't sit in front my TV while eating. I'll watch television and surf the internet while eating. I only use the table for certain Holidays. Lloyd

Some people say that you should only eat at the table, but I don't see anything wrong with eating in front of the television. We enjoy eating in front of the television and do it quite often.

I enjoy eating some meals in front of the television. Sometimes I even eat my meals in front of the computer! LOL I remember while growing up all the meals had to be at the table. Especially dinner. My mom would always make it special and we'd all eat by candlelight. But after my parents divorced, it changed, and it was more casual with no more candlelight dinners.

Why not? I do that everyday. And in fact, I time my dinner to coincide with the programs I am catching. Why waste time? It's like I normally have dinner at about 7pm - and I will watch the 7pm show too. But when that show ends and the one taking over the time slot is not a program I want to watch, I will just eat my dinner at 8pm if I am catching that show. So I "save" one hour. But of course, I still need to eat no matter what even if I don't watch any show. I will just eat at any time then. :P

Since it's just me and my husband in the house, we eat every night in front of the TV. The kitchen table has become my work table so it's always packed with my tools and craft items. I don't think we've eaten at that table in about 4 yrs. If we had kids it would probably be a very different story. :)

I absolutely do. For some reason, I find it quite enjoyable to eat my meal in front of the television. I do believe, though, that there are times when eating at the table would be a whole lot more appropriate than eating in front of the t.v. Nevertheless, I feel that eating in front of the t.v. is truly quite enjoyable, but it, unfortunately, has some detrimental effects too. If I'm not mistaken, there has been a study that suggests that eating in front of the t.v. is one of the causes of obesity. According to such study, people who tend to watch a lot of t.v. tend to also eat more, which perhaps explains why it could lead to obesity. So, I feel that, ultimately, eating in front of the t.v., although it has its merits, should be reasonably tempered or minimized.

Our family went through a phase where we would only eat in front of the TV and we never ate together except on holidays. Now though, we have gone back to eating at the table. Not only do we get to talk to each other a bit more, but it's a lot easier and less messy to have all the food set on the table. I prefer sitting at the table and I'm not sure why we ate in front of the TV for so long, maybe we were obsessed with TV back then.
