Is there a categorisation on graphics cards?

I would like to ask do the 3D graphics cards manufactured such as Geforce, Gigabyte, ATI Radeon and others categorised into laptop and desktop respectively? Please provide the links if you can find the categorisations.
In addition, laptops and desktops will have their own dedicated graphics cards respectively or the graphics cards being manufactured is suitable for both machines?
