Third Degree Burns

One of the guys in my department got third degree burns on his nose, ears and back of hands. He has been out of work now for a month and called me on Friday and told him he needs another two weeks. He is not getting skin graphs, nor did the burns get infected. I feel that the time he is taking off is a little excessive and is disrupting the entire department. Does anyone have experience with this type of burn, how long is the recovery with no graphs or infection?

He sprayed WD40 into the motor of his Dry and had his son turn it on while he sprayed. Apparently it arced and burned him.

Yes, I am surprised he didn't blow himself up, I just think that at this point he is milking his injuries.

If you think he's just trying to milk the system, ask him to provide a note from his doctor stating that it's necessary that he remains away from work for two more weeks. If he can't do that, require him to report for work as previously expected.

I have requested a doctors note but his wife is a nurse and I don't think he will have any problem getting it.
