Pet Dander Frustrations

With every pet that I've owned (cats and dogs), they all seem to have bad dander (white flakes throughout their hair). I've always fed my pets "Iams" food (which I've heard is supposed to be good for them, but I'm wondering if I should be feeding them something else (I've heard that changes in diet can help control dander issues)? What else can I do? What have your experiences been like?

one of my parent's cats had bad dander. and as he got fatter and older it was worse. sometimes we gave him baths cuz he just stank it up, and we wouldn't want to pet him, cuz he looked yuck! but i don't know if my mom ever asked the vet about it. we brushed him a lot, that helped!

Those white flakes may not be dandruff. It could be flakes from lice or some type of mite. I remember reading about that awhile back. It's a common problem. I don't remember what you do about it though. Seems like the spot on treatments you get from the vet work. I know Revolution worked, but one of my cats had a reaction to it so I don't use it anymore.

I feed my dog California Natural. Her fur is really nice and her skin is really good. To help curb the shedding and the dander, I also use the Shed Ender and brush her once every 2 weeks. You can get it online. I got mine off Ebay for less than $10. Works really good! You can use it on dogs and cats.

Thankfully, none of my pets suffer from dander or dry skin (I'm knocking on wood here, lol). I would try changing their diets slowly to a different food to see if that would help but if it continues I would talk to the vet to see if something else wrong. We usually feed our pets Iams but we have recently changed over to Purina One because the puppies seem to like that brand better and the adults don't mind.
