I have a Black Cocker Spaniel by the name of Gizmo. Anyway, he is the only one I've ever had, and I've noticed that he seems to be more attached to some of his toys, than some of my other dogs are. Is this common in the breed? He's also very gentle with his toys, he never tears out the squeaker like most of my other dogs do, and he has an old toy, that I think is a pepper, and he loves it more than any others, and he seems to think if you squeak it, that you're hurting it. He's a very sweet dog, but a little hyper at times, although, not so much as he used to be.

Dogs are wonderful creatures. They do indeed get attached to their toys. I think that is the case with all breeds, not just spaniels. I also have a dog named Gizmo at my mom's house! He's a pikegnese (spelling??) though.

Yes, I agree, they are wonderful creatures. Nice to meet someone who has a dog by that same name. lol I had never heard it before, he was given that name by the person who gave him to me. My oldest son can't remember his name sometimes when he comes to visit, and calls him Gadget. lol I like your screen name, but it made me hungry for cornbread. lol

Was Gizmo hand raised? That will make him very close to you. If not, then that is his temperment, and I think it is great, don't you? Enjoy him.

No, he wasn't hand raised, but the lady that gave him to me, (he belonged to her 18 year old daughter), couldn't tolerate him, and her daughter never paid much attention to him, and I think the pepper toy was the first toy I bought him, when I got him, and he treats it like his baby. He, on the other hand, ever since I have had him, follows me around, every where I go, if I go outside every 5 minutes, he goes outside every 5 minutes. He's my shadow. lol I guess it's probably from lack of attention before I got him. He was about 6 months old when I got him. He is a great dog, I love him to pieces, I was just wondering if the breed was all like that, or if the fact that he never got much attention before I got him was the reason. He's 15 months old now.

I have some cockers that play a long time. Some never break their toys, they believe they are their friends and when the owner leaves the house the toys are their friends and companions. My personal cockers do not play with toys that long because I always have more than one cocker. But the ones that I sold often love toys especially if trained by their owner or kids.

He has lots of toys, and he plays with most of them every now and then, but his pepper toy, and his Santa Toy are his favorites. He carries the pepper around all the time. He takes it outside with him sometimes, and when he doesn't, he usually picks it up first thing when he comes back in the house. He's so funny.
