Could you be eating beetles and not know it?

Unfortunately, it is possible. Open wide and say ahhhhhhhh...and I will have a look and let you know...no charge. The truth is that if you have consumed food products that contain the following ingredients, it is very likely that you have consumed beetle parts: FD&C Red 40, Yellow 5,etc. Also if you see the words color added or natural color added, it is carmine which again, is derived from beetles.

So that explains why peanut butter and honey are brown...so many of those tasty little critters in there.

Mmmm, All that goodness and we never knew it. I am not a person who is bothered by the possibility of eating bugs but I would like to know when I do. I guess it has not killed us yet.

Alright then, Happy, have yourself a bowl of cereal and forget the blueberries. Just add a few beetles for crunchy goodness. :)

I haven't heard about that yet, but I read in Consumer Reports that certain food products like pasta are acceptable if the contain a certain percentage of insect bodies. I remember seeing a chart in the magazine with the percentages of insect parts per boxes of macaroni according to brands. I try not to think about that stuff when I'm eating my mac n' cheese.

I have a problem with authorities today. One something is ok and the next it isn't.
