2002 Ford Explorer tranny issue!

I call it an issue because Ford denies that it is a problem, just a noisy pain in the backside! In the last year or so a strange noise has been coming from under the car. It's a "whooshing" sound that sounds like forcing water through too small a pipe at high pressure. Actually according to Ford, that's exactly what the noise is. The coupling of the 5r55w aode transmission with the 4.7 V8 engine seems to have an inherent problem with the engine being too "torquey" for the tranny causing the torque converter and pump to work too hard pumping trans. fluid through the system. It causes this very annoying noise that makes other drivers look at you as if to say "get that thing fixed before it blows up". Ford says they can replace the torque converter and pump at a cost of $2700, but won't guarantee it will cure the problem (or "issue") because in about fifty percent of the cars that they give this treatment the noise is still there!! Well, duh!!! I don't have that kind of money to throw away on a 50/50 chance that nothing will change. Are there any tranny guys or gals out there that a remotely familiar with this "issue" that can offer some kind of solution? If the "issue" is that prominent it seems that someone would come up (certainly not Ford) with an aftermarket solution. It's so irritating that I'm ready to drive the thing off a cliff somewhere. Then shop for anything without the Ford name on it. I really need some help here!!!!!! Thanks JS
