What would you pack in your carry-on suitcase?

Good morning all,
This is purely hypothetical.
If you were banished to a remote, desolate, tropical island for a one year term ... and you could only bring the clothes on your back, and one airline approved size carry-on bag ... what would you pack, and why?

A year's supply of sleeping pills. This way the next time I wake would be one year later. :P

Oh geeze, you had me wondering too!
Rappunzel was the girl with the long hair, who spun the straw into gold. Rumplestilskin was the man who fell asleep for a hundred years under the tree. Of course, he had been bowling, and embibing of a hops concoction, so it's not surprising that he slept for a millennia.
Would you really want to sleep through a year of perhaps fantabulous experiences? The banishment part would suck, but imagine what one could do, and learn from a year of contemplation and survivalism?

If it is a deserted island, I would guess that there are not much humans. In the bag, I would pack my phone, medical kit, torchlight, starters and my notebook plus some light clothing. I would keep enough snack bars to tide me through few months. I would also pack some "seeds" and "roots" where I can plant and grow my food in case the snack bars run out. And of course, money.

Hello Whyaskq,
You sound pretty prepared! And, yes it is a deserted island. So, you'd not only be unable to get a cell phone signal, but you wouldn't be able to charge the phone either. And, there wouldn't be anywhere to spend the money.
So, you'd probably need those seeds & roots. Thanks for your input!

Oh, carrier pidgeons? Now, that is thinking outside the box ... or the plane as the case may be. You might only be allowed one carry on suitcase, but no one said you couldn't have your birds fly along side the plane, or boat that carried you to the island.
Very creative!

Well I used to travel alot back during my dancing days so I'm pretty skilled at cramming a lot of things into a bag LOL.....I think the necessities for me would be...a blanket (just a thin one), towel, soap, lotion, a change of clothes, matches, lighter and lighter fluid..my hunting knife, an axe, twine, collapsible plastic jug, toothbrush, toothpaste, journal, box of pens, toilet paper LOL..and thats all I can think of right now...but after my coffee I'm sure I'll think of the rest cause there's still room in my bag LOL

Not quite hypothetical, for I may find myself rooming with the cast of Lost before to long...lol. I would pack a few clothes, some utensils, some food, afew good books, a knife or two, rope, some writing materials and a few other goodies if I have room. You could never fit everything for a whole year of survival in one little bag. So I guess it would be important to take a book explaining how to survive in the wilds with nothing.
Thinking about this, the list could grow quite long and some very basics would have to be left behind, perhaps like soap. Nobody else around to smell the stink. I think all in all, I would have to have the very basics for survival and forget the luxuries. Matches would be a must. I guess my computer is out of the question, sorry mylot...lol

Hello Sigma,
Well have you applied to "Lost" for consideration?
Hmmmm, what about first aid supplies? Oh, and what about soap as a part of your first aid kit?
I love the fact that you would include a survival guide. Very wise! A couple of books? Hmmm, survival IS on the line here. What would you eat?
As for abandoning MyLot for a year, well you'd be treated with a very warm welcome when your returned. 'Cause, we'd miss you while you were gone!

Oh lady, can't you make an exemption and make it 10 carry-on suitcases instead, LOL!
Geee...this is difficult. I'm sure I will have an allergy attack on a tropical island. I have to bring my medicines without the supplement. A small portable laptop so I can still do mylotting and stay connected with my friends and family. Some of my thinnest clothes that I can pushed down to my suitcase. It wouldn't do me good to go naked in an island. Might scared the other living creatures there. I will also squeezed in some toiletries. We should still be beautiful despite staying in a remote island, right?

Good morning Charms,
If it were up to me, you know I'd let you bring 10 bags instead of one. But, it's not me who has banished you ... I would never do such a thing ... I would miss you while you were on the island. Hey, at least you've been banished to the tropics, and not Antarctica.
So, how would you charge your laptop? Oh, and there's no other humans on the island, and I'm certain the fishies & other critters won't mind you baring all.

Assuming Jessica Alba woulnd't fit in my carry on bag I'd pack the following:
Survival Knife: In case I want to go John Rambo on the local fauna.
2 Liter Mountain Dew: The Bottle would be useful.
100' rope: For my Tarzan Impression
A large pan: To make flapjacks (or boil water..you're too picky)
Fishing line and hooks: Incase Jessica Alba did fit.
A blanket: See above
Desalination tablets: For all your desalination needs.
Bailing Wire: Do I really have to spell it out?
Duct Tape: For shutting Jessica Alb-er shutting myself up.
A change of underwear: Just one, that's all I need.
Bible: I'm being practicle here: toilet paper, fire starting material, reading
Can of SPAM: For when I'm truly desperate
Machete: I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay..Sleep all night and I work...
Q-tips: self-explanatory
1 Dozen Lighters: To nuture the pyromaniac in myself
Shortwave Crank radio: So I can catch up on current news
That about does it except for the box of junior mints that is of course mandatory.
Minnie Mouse is HOT!

RavenladyJ is definitely on the right track, I'd want a couple of firestarters (flints and stuff to make the bow, just in case) and waterproof matches, some very concentrated, biodegradable liquid soap, two 6x8 tarps, Swiss Army knife, ipod w/solar power adapter (is there such a thing?), seeds for my favorite greenery, writing materials, some candles, cutting tool, pliers, 2 rolls of parachute cord, a couple of fish hooks, 12 disposable aluminum pie pans, shakeable flashlight, 2 decks of cards, 5 lbs of salt, 5 lbs of coffee, 3 lbs of sugar, and whatever clothing I could stuff into the remaining space.

Hello Gardengrrl,
I'm intrigued by your teambuilding experience. If I may, I'll ask that you p.m. me the sponsoring agent or trainer.
Excellent scenario they provided you with! And, good for you for remembering your Girl-Scout training!
Of course, you probably realize that the solar powered i-pod is unrealistic. So, how else might you entertain yourself?
Oh, and why would you choose to bring flints as opposed to lighter fluid?

I would skip the lighter fluid because I'm an eliteist snob who wants to show off my camping skills.... lol, just kidding! I'm a klutz and tend to spill stuff, so I'd be out of fluid in no time.
Hmmm, let me think back to that seminar, it was conducted by one of the company's trainers, but it looked like a seminar-in-a-box kind of thing, I'll hunt around a bit this weekend and see if I can find the handbook, that'll tell me who produced it.
