An unexpected side to Chef Ramsey

Just finished watching this weeks episode of Hell's Kitchen (taped) and I noticed something very interesting. Chef Ramsey is a real sweetheart when he's not in the kitchen. Like when he took the girl chefs out on the boat for a fishing expedition, he was practically civilized. I noticed the same thing last season. The further he gets away from the kitchen, the more charming he becomes. Wonder why? I'm not sure what it is about Hell's kitchen that turns him into a big meanie. But, who could blame him. He's usually dealing with a bunch of amateurs on the show, and that has to be a royal pain. No wonder he gets into such a bad mood. I still liked seeing his cuddly side though.

I think part of his "mean act" is just that...an act, it's creates his "character" as the head chef of Hell's Kitchen. Think abuot how boring the show would be if he was nice to everyone, and really supportive. There would be no drama, and that's why people watch :-) Plus it would be hard to call it "Hell's Kitchen" if everyone was happy and nice :-) He also has a really hard job to do, taking untrained chefs and getting them up to the standrd of a world class chef. That's hard work and well to quote a cooking related cliche, "if you want to make an omlett you have to break some eggs". That said, like you I also really enjoy seeing his squishy side. It's nice to know that he is in fact human. Plus, he is teaching these people and all of them are getting an amazing opportunity. I'm really enjoying this show :-)

Yep I agree. It's an act and his way of training the chefs to work under pressure. B/c you know that in a real kitchen, it's not gonna be Chef Ramsay yelling at them for mistakes, but it will be the customers! Imagine if a customer gets some spoiled fish? They will not only be in danger, they will likely be very very mad. Chef yells at their mistakes to get it in there head that it was wrong. I knew he was human since the first season when they showed him out of the kitchen. He wouldn't do this show if he wasn't. Why would he offer cooks this great opportunity unless he enjoyed watching them succeed? It would be fun to meet him.

I've actually grown to quite like him. I think he's quite charming and a bit of a flirt. yes he swears a lot, but Kitchen Nightmares is the one that changed my mind what I thought about him. he tries really hard to help these people who are doing things more than a bit wrong. he really wants to get their businesses sorted out and successful. no wonder he gets frustrated when they choose to ignore his very good, well founded advice. I mean lets face it, he knows how to run a restaraunt business. I think as a person I quite like him.

Yes, he is very flirty! I have noticed that too. And, i think he is a good business person as well. Otherwise how could one explain his success. I am happy to see that I am not his only fan. Thanks for dropping by. You get the best response!

I think he dramatizes the kitchen episodes a bit. After all it is television and that is what we love about the show...his explosions and reactions. I think he is a very civil person and he showed some compassion to Julia by putting her axed dish (steak and shrimp) back on the menu after the other two voted if off.

I've only watched one episode of that show.He is really lucky he isn't in Canada because he'd probably be paying millions in court settlement for the way he treats his staff, bu the labour board. I would have thrown something in his rude self-important face within 5 minutes of walking into his kitchen.

I'm not really a fan of the show but I did watch a couple of times last season and I did see the show you are talking about. I think the guy is funny, I don't know about soft b/c he uses to much profanity but he sure is funny.

i think that his "meanness" comes from being very passionate about cooking. even tho people must expect a gamble when they decide to eat at hell's kitchen, it's still a product that has his name on it. the meals being served are his recipes. it's his baby.

I love Chef Ramsey and i think that he is just "a little" hot-tempered. I don't blame him for shouting and cursing it's part of his personality. I also agree that his attitude come from his passion of cooking. When i saw him cooking live on NBC he was so passionate and he just keep laughing at what the anchors said. I really like him and in my opinion he is pretty good looking for his age and his attitude makes him even more cool.
