Do you spank your kids?

Is spanking kids the most productive way to get their attention if they choose to cause trouble? Or should one look for an alternate way of distilling discipline?

Sometimes spanking is the only way they will listen. I don't mean BEATING them, though. I've tried the alternative ways as well. Most of the time the kids just used the 'time out' time to plot more mischief. I've also stood them in the corner. When the kids would fight I made them say 3 nice things about the other person to their face. Or give them a hug. I think that was worse torture than anything else!

I spank and it works for us. I don't have to do it very often because it works so well for us.

I would spank my son but never too hard. Only rarely I do spank. Only some spank can make some kids realize that they are doing wrong. Check this article: http://www.helium.com/tm/135940/should-childthis-frequently-raised

What my belive is spanking the kids makes them rude to things and even the situation in the future and not good for especially for disciplining them and if you want to discipline them then choose apolite and well understandable manner by just frightening them or by telling them what hapens if they are mannerless and what they loose in their character in the futuire. All the best.

Nope I believe hitting teaches hitting, how can you hit your kids and tell them its not ok to hit, I think there are so many other ways to puinish a child and if one method dosnt work try amother one.

It depends on the age of the child. With our four year old, we stick to time outs unless she is putting her self in danger (playing with electrical sockets etc etc). With our 21 month old, we do spankings because she's too young for time outs. They don't make sense to her. If she hits/pinches/bites etc we do it back to her.
