my 15 month old has had a fever off and on for 3 days now. We were at the ER last night because it wouldn't come down.
Tonight it was back up to 104. She is on Motrin & Tylenol. She is vomiting over and over again. She is shaking bad and her eyes are rolling around.
Could this really be a virus?

My husband already had her back there.
The shaking was due to the fever. I have never dealt with a fever that high before.

My husband was on his way back to the hospital last night when I posted this.
They were there until 9am this morning.
We have a doctor appointment this evening to follow up too.

Aww, thank you :)
We had a follow up this morning and they said that she has something they are calling the summer flu. A few other kids have had it.
Her fever is gone as long as I keep up on the medicine but she has an ear infection now.
The joys of parenting.

Unfortunately, it could be a virus yes, here in Oz we have a big one going around which is actually putting a lot of little tackers in hospital with fevers, vomiting & breathing problems.
I hope your little one is feeling better soon but if the Dr has sent her home then he may not think it's anything life threatening.
Keep an eye on her, keep her warm so she'll sweat it out & i do hope she's feeling better soon! Maybe try a warm bath, i know i always feel better after one of those! Also make sure she drinks extra water & other fluids if she's vomiting so much, just to keep her hydrated.

She is back from the hospital. The IV must have helped because sheis drinking. I bought a couple jars of baby food so it will be easier on her stomach until she is feeling back to herself.
I also made some pedialite popsicles.
Thank you for the get well wishes!

The hospital says it is a virus. Out of my almost 4 years of being a parent I have never had a child with a fever that high.

That is terrible. It is so hard knowing there isn't much you can do to make them better.

My son had a fever that high when he had a trach infection (he has a tracheostomy). It was the scariest thing ever. I never seen his eyes roll though, he was just really hot to the touch, and his heart rate was running about 225 beats per minute (we have a pulsox to measure his oxygen level and heart rate at home). It was insane! I ended up taking him to the emergency room because plain tylenol just wasn't cutting it. I hope to never have to go through that again.

i would recommend going back the hospital if her fever is still reaching that temperature. she is probably extremely dehydrated by now from all of the vomiting, and in the ER they could give her an IV to restore bodily fluids and it would give them a better chance to determine what is wrong. if she is shaking and her eyes are rolling, though, that sounds like something more serious than a virus. she could be having seizures, which sometimes can cause a person to throw up. i hope your daughter gets better soon though!

They did give her an IV. They did bloodwork and it showed no infections.
Thank you for the get well wishes.

Yes it could be a virus, and yes it can stick around as long as need be. Fever is your body trying to fight off whatever is attacking it. Viruses along with everything else in the world are getting stronger, so we have to as well. With children, I know it's terrifying, and the only thing I've found that helps beond Tylenol&Motrin, is luke warm baths. Try to keep the water warm enough that your child doesn't get goosebumps, but cool enough to force their body to cool down. It has worked with my girls, even if I had to repeat every few hours.
Good Luck

Turns out it is a virus. She screams the entire time she is in the tub so I might see if getting in with her makes it easier.

Oh! my God...maybe yes a virus.
Don't worry the doctors are working on it. Next time make sure that all the bottles were sterilized, all the things she used to play with.
Maybe she eats something dirty or maybe not too good for her age and it caused her the vomiting.
I hope your baby will get okey.

I'm sorry but do you even have children?
At 15 months it's no longer necessary to sterilise everything, it's not bad for kids to eat dirt, they get over it & it builds their immune system.
When they get a flu shot - do you know what it is?
It's a dose of the flu so their immune system can attack it, fight it off & get stronger.
At some stage you have to realise you cant cotton ball your kids, they have to play in mud, eat dirt & millipedes & so on.
I'm sure the little munchkin will be fine!
