NIFONG according to Coulter

Sure, sometimes Ann Coulter goes over the top, crosses the line, blows a gasket, blows literary steam out her ears, and occaisionally just sounds whacko. This is not one of those times. Ann Coulter gives us her take on the Nifong fiasco. http://www.anncoulter.com/cgi-local/welcome.cgi What do you think of the punishment for Nifong in the case of the malicious prosecution of the Duke Lacross players? Should he also go to jail?

He should be not only disbarred in his current state but declared unfit to practice any form of law in any state. There is a part of me that would like to see him in jail, but there is another part of me that would like to see him working a minimum wage job paying damages from a civil suit brought by the parents. Hey, maybe both a jail term AND financial restitution!

Yes, you are right. The justice system can not work if there are prosecuters who do not care what the evidence says when it interfers with their agenda to convict. Nifong opened a lot of people's eyes with his actions. I'm thinking that Nifong is only the tip of the iceberg of this problem in the area where he practiced.

Yes he should go to jail. Nifong abused his office and deliberately went after these Lacrosse players even when he knew the evidence was not there, and then tried to hide evidence that would have cleared the players. He used his office in order to try and gain political advantage at the expense of people that he knew were innocent. The question is, how many times has this happened before, and how many innocent people are in prison because of him? He should be sent to prison...preferably one that houses a bunch of those that he put there. They would welcome him and make sure that he is well taken care of.

Until I read your post, I totally forgot about something. Since Nifong has been convicted of ignoring evidence that would clear someone, EVERY CASE HE HAS EVER DONE CAN BE APPEALED ON THE BASIS THAT "MAYBE" HE IGNORED EVIDENCE IN THAT CASE, TOO! What a mess. Prosecuters who do this crap need to be publically embarrased, fined, and put in jail!

Not only has he caused a lot of financial problems and bills for those he accused...legal costs in the millions I think they said...but now he has put the county and state in the unenviable position of having to review every case, not to mention the lawsuits involved if it is found that he did send some innocent people to prison. He has screwed the entire system up in that area for the forseeable future, and has opened the door for reform legislation on a national level. He has dealt a severe blow to law enforcement and the court system by his actions, and these events will take many years to play out.

If he really did hide evidence that could have exonerated the defendants, then he should go to jail. I know this kind of thing happens way too often (especially in high-profile cases), so I wouldn't be surprised by it all that much. But I wouldn't take Ann Coulter's word that the facts of the case are as she described them.

Not to worry, I've read it elsewhere that Nifong hid evidence. We do NOT have to count on Ann Coulter to be telling the truth.

Not only should he go to jail, but he should also be disbarred — if he has not been already. I am sick of this liberal crap that portrays middle and upper class white men as bigots and racists, and all the blacks as poor downtrodden and the middle and upper class blacks as good moral and descent characters who have to tell us hedonistic whites how to behave. Such is just wishful thinking. A lawyer should not be influenced by Hollywood's Social Engineering which is what it is becoming. i hope that the courts can reverse the damage before the lives's of those young men are ruined.

I believe he has already been disbarred. As to the prejudice that white males are all bigots and racists, you do not have to convince me that it is true white males are thusly unfairly categorized. I have been called a racist and Hitler here at myLot merely for pointing out the high crime rate amoung illegal immigrants. Note, I did not say hispanics, I said illegal immigrants. There is a huge difference between the two groups. Hispanics in the country legally do not commit crimes at a higher rate than anyone else. Since, I brought it up, and it is provable, I might as well say it again. Illegal aliens commit crimes in the USA out of all proportion to their numbers. It is a fact, saying so does not make me a racist or a bigot. Facts are facts.

That man has affected a lot of people, he should do jail time and do financial restitution. Let's see, there were 3 young men, and their team. Maybe some of these kids could have gone pro. We do know, it negatively affected their college experience. There parents paid good money for their kids to go to this school and so it cost them a lot. The rest of the team, who were punished by association. Their season was cancelled. Again the team and their parents were affected in the same way as these 3 young men. The coach, he lost his job. He was condemned for something that did not happen. Now let's look at Duke, here is a black mark against a good school. Were there qualified candidates who did not apply because of the 'bad people' that go there or the reputation of the school. The man owes a lot of people, big time. The pain and suffering he caused for these kids and their families goes way beyond dollars and cents.

To your excellent comments I would add that the administration at Duke was almost as bad as Nifong. They condemed the Lacross players without listening to their side of the story and before they were convicted of anything. Duke, itself, totally threw out the concept of innocent until proven guilty.
