Should I use anything else with Spy-bot? I am currently using FireFox 2.00+, avast, zone alarm, and thunderbird. But am still having a few problems with spyware etc. I have used lavasoft in the past but feel that they have gotten a bit commercial for my taste. I may use them in addition to spy-bot if it turns out I need to.

This is a possibility, but with the nasties out there nowadays, some might prefer a slightly more proactive approach. Like the old saying goes, "It's easier to keep your room clean than it is to clean it." And frankly, HJT is more of a last resort when it comes to recommending such things to the average user. Sure, there are forums that can help you out, but the temptation to fix it yourself is always there, not to mention the fact that people don't always want to depend on others in situations they might be able to handle themselves.
My first recommendation is a stronger resident antispyware, a couple options for which I've given in my response below. Second, it's not a bad idea to bookmark a few online scanners, just in case there is something Spyware Doctor or Spyware Terminator (or whatever) doesn't catch. Trend is the only online scanner that works directly with Firefox, but Ewido (AVG Anti-Spyware) still offers it's "Micro" scanner, which can be downloaded and launched from Firefox. I suggest bookmarking these two links for future reference:

Hope this helps!

if your looking for a better anti-spyware software i recommend Spyware Doctor based on my experience and other people that used that product it's the best software to detect and remove all types of spyware on your pc. it can also protect your pc against adware, spyware trojans, keyloggers, identity theft, hijackers, rogue anti-spyware, unwanted software, phishing and bad websites.
for your virus problems i recommend NOD32, I've tried many different anti virus programs but NOD32 proves to be the strongest of them all.

I use Adaware. I did use Spybot as well, but it recognized some of my affiliate programs as spyware so stopped using it. I would say that the only thing to do is to buy one of those commercial ones, but I have no idea which one is best.
