I was just listening to the news on the radio and there was a feature about the winner of he Ugliest Dog Of The Year Award given to Elwood, a 2 year old dog who received the "honors" of being considered the ugliest dog....I then went to the radio's website just to see how "ugly the dog was. It's actually a heart-warming story--Karen Quigley, Elwood's "mom" rescued him from a breeder two years ago who was all set to put the dog down, as she thought the dog was so ugly that he didn't have a chance to be adopted....Well I guess beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, as Ms. Quigley didn't think Elwood was that ugly. Elwood has been cited as looking between a Yoda or E.T.--mmm...maybe...upon looking at the pictures, I didn't think he was that ugly... What do you think? Think Elwood is ugly? Or is beauty in the eyes of the beholder Here is the link to the story http://www.1010wins.com/pages/609438.php?contentType=4&contentId=634035

I have so seen that dog before!! We caught that award show on the TV a few months back - or maybe it was last years. Not sure. But it is one ugly dog! Not that that is a reason to take a life! Those dog shows are really funny to watch :)

Awe, it pulled at my heart strings. Would this breeder put her child to sleep, if it was deformed? That gets me so mad. Beauty is under the shell, not the shell on the outside. That goes for all living creatures.

Unfortunately the breeder was just thinking in dollars and cents--how much money she could get out of it...she probably figured that since Elwood was so lucky, she wouldn't make any money off him---like everything else...probably viewed as "cost effective"

I saw this story on yahoo when I brought up my internet and I was like...."what!?" lol. I looked at the pictures and I thought it was so funny! And kind of sad that they held a ugliest dog show and someone was happy to win it! lol.

Yikes GF that is a pretty seriously ugly dog! But I suppose even the uglies need a home and some love. LMAO I know this discussion is a few months old but I am just now catching it. Thanks for the picture, poor thing. I wonder if that tongue gets in the way of his eating? is He blind? LMAO I should go read the article.

I don't have my satellite up and running anymore, so I didn't get to see the contest. Yaaayyyyy! Elwood won for the second year in a row! I love those dogs. I think Elwood is adorable. I don't live that far from Petaluma, and one of these days I am going to make it over there to see the contest in person. I wish you could have seen Elwood last year. He was strutting his stuff in front of the judges and giving them loves and kisses. It was so cute. Thanks for posting this hon. I have to say it again....Yaaaayyyyy Elwood! LOL

Yeah, he's pretty unattractive but then again, it's a lousy photo. I'd be worried about the poor thing being cold rather than ugly. His owner obviously loves him and that's the main thing. I reckon Ellwoods, one lucky puppy. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think he is ugly....he is kind of cute. There are dog breeds that I think are ugly, but then others love them so I am sure it is an eye of the beholder issue.

He is ugly, it looks like someone wore out an ugly stick beating him up but put him down - No way. I am probably one of the people that would have adopted him if I had the chance. I love animals..and I am convinced..that every person or animal that is loved is beautiful to the people who love him.
