Where do all the socks go??

So what REALLY happens to socks being laundered?
Why does one half of the pair ALWAYS disappear? Where does it go? Do the sock fairies come and take them away to make their homes? Is there a sock monster inside the dryer that eats them?
What's your theory?

The spinning of the washer and dryer casue tear in the space time continum and the free flow of electrons casue 1 or 2 to jump threw the tear and exist on a serperate plain where all the other missing objects go.
