Can you take a newborn camping?

One of the local moms in our neighborhood told me recently that she is planning to take her entire family, including a six month old boy, camping once the weather is warmer. And, I was wondering, is this safe? Wouldn't a newborn or baby be more at risk in the outdoor elements at night than a ten year old or an adult?

I wouldn't take a baby that young camping. I saw a movie once where the baby was taking by dingo's in australia, I think it was. Meryl Streep was the actress, I think. That movie had a lasting effect on me. I would probably be concerned even if I had never seen that movie. I guess the baby would be relatively safe if it were NEVER left unattended. That just seems pretty hard to do.

I guess it depends on what they are camping in. my inlaws have a big nice motorhome and can run the heat if it gets chilly. I think the baby would be fine if it isn't a really cold night.

I would take a 6-month old camping. As long as the outdoor temperatures were not really extreme. I would just take extra special note of the child's hydration status if it were hot and make sure that he/she stayed hydrated and cool. Infants lose water much faster than adults so that would be the key factor. If the child was sweating a great deal they would need more water than usual. Otherwise, I think the 6-month old would be fine in mom and dad's tent!

we took my oldest camping when he was a baby and he was fine. we had a big tent and we slept on and air bed and had his play pen. we are plaining on taking our youngest with us this summer camping. we just make sure we keep the tent closed up and bug spray near.

I dont see nothing wrong with it...I have been taking my boys since they were newborns. We also camp in a tent. I dont think any wild dingos would come take the baby unless you left it out in the middle of the woods alone. Its just like being at home...I mean if u parent the child would be fine.

Sure, I don't see why not, I used to take my kids camping. You just have to bring a play pen or something so they are not crawling around on the ground. You pretty much take care of them the same as when you are at home.

I dare not take the risk of bringing babies for camping. They are susceptible to outside pollution and ofcourse there might be bad spirit outside. I might be a bit susperstitious.

There may be a slightly higher risk of illnes with a young child but if they are protected by warm clothing if it is cool in the night hours...and shade when it is sunny...proper nutrition and hydration...then I would not find extreme fault with it....I guess, to me it would depend on the parents...LOL

No...If I'm on her shoe I won't bring my baby of course. It's not good for him.
