Clematis

I planted 2 Clematis plants 2 years ago and they never broke ground at all. Well this year one seems to have returned. It shocked the wife and I. Yet we love it. It seems to be taking forever for the flowers to show up. This photo shows the buds that appear as if they may open any day. I have no idea the color but from the buds I am guessing purple in color. I tied some wire to the deck so it will climb and start covering my deck next year hopefully. That was our first plans as the placemnet was along sifde the deck in front.

I hate to break the news to you but it is going to take a while to cover your deck.
Although they have plenty of flowers, they are coming along very slow. I am using them as a screen and I think I'll be 60 by the time they get there.
Also remember some clematis will bloom on last years growth while others will bloom on the new growth. Keep this in mind when it comes time to prune.

Oh I know they take awhile sheesh. HAHAHA. I'd be 90 before they did cover the whole deck. I'm 53 now. Well maybe 70 not 90. HAHAHA!! I've got sites for that info saved as I use them for a lot of my plants, flowers, and shrubs etc. Here's the sites I visit often for my gardening info and help.

Clematis are beautiful vines. Glad to hear at least one came up for you and your wife, Grandpa Bob. Another plus other than providing privacy for your deck is that the hummingbirds love it as well.

One of my favorite plants. Two years ago I tried to start them from seed and not a single one grew. I probably did something wrong.
Lol, last summer I found a plant growing next to an empty building next door and transplanted them in my yard along my walk way. After thinking about them for a few hours I realized that they had 3 leaves. I looked on the internet to find that what I transplanted was poison ivy. Spent the next few hours ripping them out.

It's ok, I still laugh at myself for doing that.
I moved away from there this spring, so more than likely the clamatis is probably huge and beautiful.

This will be very pretty when it covers the whole fence.
Purple will be quite outsatanding to have over the fence.
This must be a good time of the year for your gardening.
And it wasn't even broken by yoiur son-in-laws gutter work!
I rated your photo & wrote a comment.

How fun! I have a clematis coming up, too, that I totally forgot I planted. Maybe they are brothers (sister's wouldn't be that stubborn! LOL!) at coming up late.

It seems to be taking forever for the flower to open also.
Still a big bud is it. Will photo it when it opens though.

We have had plants that we uprooted and tossed into the compost pile thinking they were no longer productive. Much to our surprise they found new life and bloomed in the compost heap. Guess it was the good nutrients in the pile that did the trick.

I've never grown clematis but have thought of it many times, they are beautiful flowers and I've seen pictures and on HGTV (one of my favorite stations) how they will cover and porch area giving nice shade underneath.

WOW that is weird and amazing at the same time.LOL. We noticed some flowers in our rock gardens this year that we do not remember planting and have no clue as to what they are. LOL! Guess we will just have to wait and see when they bloom to be able to tell what they are. Any way I ham happy that yours finally came to! And they will look great growing up the deck!

Yeah it kind of shocked us when we first saw it sprouting
from the ground. Wasn't sure if it was a weed and should
yank it out. Glad we didn't. HAHAHAHA!!

It's a clementis as well. and there's a smaller one in the background if you enlarge the picture. the colours are amazing!
And if your guess is right, yours will be purple too! and looking forward to seeing a similar beauty emerge from your buds!
