Things One Thinks About While Sleeping

Ok, I know some of you are probably scratching your heads at this point and wondering what the heck I am talking about here, but I will get to that shortly.
More often than not, I come up with my best ideas while asleep. Yes you heard that right "while asleep"! Which has lead me to believe that in some instances dreams can be a form of altered thinking. Maybe not even a form of altered thinking, but just good old, get right down to it, thinking. Or could it be that while we "think" we are sleeping, we are really awake in one form or another? Who knows, that's something to ponder about some other time.
During one of these sleep induced thinking moments, I was in debate with myself whether or not certain sleeping patterns such as: sleeping on your right or left side; in a fetal position; with your butt in the air; or however one gets to sleep at night, could be passed on to your children. Or if in some manner by an observation the child has made, has in some manner just picked up on certain sleeping habits, by seeing how their parents are asleep at the time they rush in and try to wake their parents up.
Being as observant as I sometimes can be, what brought this little ongoing debate within my head on, was a few days ago, I had a friend and her son staying with me, while her husband was away on a three day business trip. They were sleeping in my guest bedroom with the door open (don't know why they had the door open) and I happen to notice both were sleeping exactly the same. Both on their right sides with one leg slightly bent.
This very well could have just been a coincidence, but being the person that I am, well I like to think there is something more to it than just mere coincidences taking place.
So in ending, what are your thoughts? Do you thinking how one sleeps could be determined early in the developmental stages? or do you believe it just a weird sense of deja vu and coincidence that certain alike sleep patterns can be observed both in the parent and child?

Hi jeweledbluerose. My feelings on this subject are that there are many more strange things in the universe than we will ever truly understand. Having said this, I believe that many habits and mannerisms can be passed down from parent to child-so why not sleeping patterns?

Hello worldwise. :) What you say about "there are many more strange things in the universe than we will ever truly understand", is true. Although I wish the universe would stop being so mysterious on some occasions..lol. With the rate of genetics being passed down through the generations, I don't see why not certain sleeping patterns, couldn't be passed on as well. But I would think that in this case it may be hard to prove. I could be wrong though.

i'm not sure really. all of my kids sleep different. i can check them 4 times a night and they are a different way each time. i sleep on my left side with my legs all over and i have a huggy pillow. my youngest pretty much stays on his back or leans kind of to the right. my middle son is either on his back left or right it diofferent every time i look but my oldest is like his father and is all over his bed. he never stops moving through the night. he has always been all over annd still at almost 7 will fall out of bed once in a while. there has been mornings where we find him on the floor because he has fallin and don't feel like getting back up in bad. i am more still at night and don't move much at all. their dad moves a lot so i am sure my oldest got that from him.

It just really had me curious, when seeing such a thing as I did. It very well could have been just a coincidence that they were both sleeping alike. Plus When I was younger I had a habit of sleeping with my rear in the air, and there is one other in my family that sleeps that slept the same way when she was younger. So I really don't know if sleeping habits or "traits" can be passed on genetically.
