My bush green beans are plentiful this year. I have roughly 20 plants and each one has many many beans on them. The wife will be busy this Sunday freezing and or cooking them. I snapped a couple off and they are good. The oldest grandson and daughter sampled them also this past weekend. Now theres soooo many to pick. HAHAHA!!!

Your "surprises" in your garden all sound so yummy. My dad used to grow a huge garden, and there would always be the race to see who could get to the ripe veggies first. My dad and I would eat so many of the green beans that we would end up too full to eat dinner! LOL

Now I'm jealous - deer ate all but 2 of my bean plants and as I got them in late because of moving I won't be getting beans for some time yet.

I've had the rabbits munching a tad bit is all. They didn't destroy them though. HAHAHAHA!! These were planted about 6 weeks ago.

I keep saying I'm going to get a picture but everytime I'm out with the camera I get side tracked - eat every single leaf off the beans and left about 6 inches of 'stem' :( Deer must really really like beans - they don't like tomatos though - didn't touch those.

I love fresh green beans. We have not a lot of sunny places to plant vegetables. Usually we plant pole beans in huge pots and let them run up the poles that are place in the pots. But, I decided to not do it this year. I miss not having the fresh picked beans. They taste so much better than store bought.

I need to stake them up next year. Everytime I water
them they fall to the ground but do stand back up.

All green vegetables & salads are very good for you. I rated your photo & wrote a comment of your very healthy looking crop.
Here is a green bean recipe that I think will be okay for your Dad too:
Skillet Green Beans and Peppers
Green beans cooked in the skillet with bell peppers and onion, along with garlic and seasonings.
INGREDIENTS:
16 ounces green beans, cooked
1 red bell pepper, sliced in strips
1 yellow or orange bell pepper, sliced in strips
1 small onion, halved and sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper
PREPARATION:
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add cooked green beans, peppers, onion, and garlic. Cook slowly, stirring, until peppers are crisp tender, about 8 to 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Thanks again. I've cooked the exact same things as this recipe. Excpet I use Mrs Dash table seasoning instead of salt. I also use saltfree butter not margarine as I love butter. Got to cut salt out totally for dads heart condition. Thanks again.

Oh great! We have at least 3 more weeks before our plants grow anything on them- I wish I lived elsewhere- NY-- it just started to get hot out- and we've been watering the garden morning and night- I can't wait for our beans to grow- This is my least favorite part of our garden- picking beans- I love picking all other veggies- but the beans get me- I enlist my daughter to help!

Ugg, I don't even want to think about green beans. Every year, my aunt, (who lives right across the road from me) plants to many beans. She always calls my mom & asks if she wants some. Of course, she does. But then she dont have time to pick & fix them. So she will ask me to do it. It never fails, I pick her 3 5 gallon buckets. Then she asks me if I have time to help her brake them. I will go over to help her but she starts doin somethin else & I end up brakin them by myself. My little cousin use to come over & mix the "bad parts" & ends back in with the good stuff. Now that he is finally old enough to know not to do that, my niece has started. Oh the joys of green beans which by the way, I would never eat. I hate the taste. Or maybe I just hate them becaue I've had to pick so many of them! Haha

One of my favorite memories is one of my kids going to their great uncle's garden and picking fresh peas to eat out of the pod. It was wonderful.

You have quite the crop going this year. I love fresh green beans steamed and with lots of butter! I guess for me I will have to go out and buy some.

I've been munching on and off all day on the beans. Just pick and eat is what I've done today. Grats on the hobby you have picked up. I love gardening as it's not really hard, stressful nor time consuming. It's dirty but the benefits I reap are so tasty and pretty to look at. HAHA!

Hello dear Grandpa Bob. I am very happy that you had a fruitful green beans last year, because this discussion was posted ten months ago when I happened to see it under similar discussion after I had responded to some discussion about green beans of another friend of mine, including yours as well. I hope that your green beans this year will be harvested as well, giving a bigger surprise. Happy posting, Grandpa Bob and say hi for me to Grandma Bob for her hard and busy work freezing and cooking the green beans.
