Toys and tires, pet food and toothpaste; now we have had to stop China from importing fish (catfish, basa, and dace); shrimp and eel because they are contaminated with antibiotics and anitfungals taht "are not approved for human consumption". The FDA has stated that they will only allow shipments of these five species IF the COMPANY can show the shipments are free of residues of these drugs. The FDA also found similar problems with fish from Mexico and the Phillipines and their fish was also banned.

It is becoming more alarming by the day, what we are exposing ourselves to by importing items from other countries. Apparently these countries do not have as stringent of controls as we do and we need to just accept that and forget importing! I personally would rather spend a few cents more on a product and know that it was safe! What is really frightning, we often don't know where the food comes from that we eat in restaurants! At home, I can somewhat control what I eat, and try to read labels to see where a product was made, but in restaurants, that isn't an option!

But, that is also a problem becauee we do not know where the ingrediants come from. The pet food was manufactured in Canada and the US; but, one ingrediant from China made it deadly and there is NO requirement for them to list the source of the ingrediants. Even scarier, is the fact that our own country no longer produces many of these ingrediants. The LAST plant in America for manufacturing Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) closed in 2005. All Vitamin C in our food and beverages is imported.

Oh man, that IS scary. There is no telling what we are putting into our bodies daily. Even when a product says, 'manufactured in America' I suppose there is a loophole...because they take all the parts, that may not have come from America, and 'maufaucture' the product.
