Have you ever been bitten by a dog?

When I was about 12 or so I was walking my 10 month old male Siberian Husky puppy down the road when this big German Shepherd came out and started tearing my dog to shreds. I kept trying to pull my dog away, but the dog just kept on his neck, so I couldn't pick my dog up and I was too far from home to call for help. I kicked the dog trying to distract him and he turned around and mauled my hand. Then he turned around and kept attacking my dog. Finally the Shepherd's owners came out and called him back and he went right to them. The dog put several puncture wounds through most of my fingers, ripped the skin on my pinkie and tore off the nail. My dog had to go into the vet for emergency surgery, and I had to get tetanus and rabies shots at the hospital. The dog ended up getting put down when it bit a horse going by on the road, causing the horse to throw his rider who broke her arm. That was less than a month later. I had another close call when I was about 16 or so with another Shepherd. A girl who used to show her dog came to the classes our local kennel club put on and lunged at me because she 'doesn't like skirts' and I just happened to be wearing a skirt. I love dogs, but I don't trust Shepherds as far as I can throw them. What about you? Have you ever been bitten by a dog? What breed? What were the circumstances?

I used to work as an at home caseworker and there was a family that I worked with who would never let people in their front door. If you knocked at their front door, they told you to go around to the back door. Well, I had an appointment with the teenage daughter and I walked around to the back door and their dog was tied up by the door. He bared his teeth at me and then lunged I ran but he still got his teeth into the side of my hip. I was really lucky because he only got a couple of his teeth in me and once I ran he couldn't get very far to keep coming after me. I love dogs, but after this dog bite I became very leary of any large dogs, particularly of any rotweilers, because this dog was a doberman/rotweiler mix and looked more like a rotweiler. Turned out that this dog did not have his rabies shots, so the humane society had to pick him up and quarantine him while they determined that he did not have rabies and his family had to pay for his quarantine. What I found really interesting about the whole thing was that not once did I get an apology from the family. Instead, the family was angry at me and told me that they would prefer I didn't work with them any further. I'm sure they thought that I made their dog go into quarantine, when really it was a law that I had to reveal who the family was, where they lived, etc so that their dog could be checked out and it could be checked out that their dog was up to date with shots.

How horrible for you... I was bitten by a German Shepard when I was about 6, it bit my face, it was I suppose just a nip, it drew blood but nothing drastic. I had tooth marks on my forhead and under my chin.I thought it was going to swallow me whole.
