Chris Benoit: Hometown Hero???

I'm going nuts here. On June 25th, the news broke that Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their 7 year old son, Daniel were found dead on their Atlanta home. So now all this week I've been getting more and more angry about the fact that Sun Media and the Edmonton Sun are hailing him as a hometown hero, writing these touching memorials, and asking people who knew him to offer a little something -- as if he's some sort of martyr or something! He was a WWE wrestler, for the love of God! Maybe on the same level as soap opera stars! To boot, it's entirely possible that he himself killed both his wife and son! So why all the fond memories and kind words about his life? Why are there no touching memorials to Nancy and Daniel? If conclusive evidence comes out that he did in fact kill his family and then took his own life, then he was a coward and didn't deserve all the hoopla surrounding his death.

I do not think the man was famous. I never heard of him before. I am in Europe and he is completely unknown to me. Forget it. I heard of Hulk Hogan. And a guy named Meatloaf. A locally known man is not famous. Forget him.

He was actually a very famous wrestler in North America. I think everyone knew Hulk Hogan. And a wrestler named Meatloaf?

Famous does not have to mean one is known internationally. He was famous in Canada and the US, as well as the circles in other countries who kept up with professional wrestling here. He WAS famous, there's no doubt. But so was OJ. That didn't stop him from murdering either. Meatloaf is a singer/songwriter ... not a wrestler. And yes, he's famous too.

First of all, just because you weren't a fan doesn't mean that he wasn't a hero to some people. Your closed minded opinion on that subject is duly noted and mindfully ignored. Secondly, why are you going nuts? Mind your own business and ignore it. After all, if he was no big deal and just a coward why are you wasting your "precious" time thinking and writing about it? You, the so-called beautiful people. Just because your evil is done behind closed doors doesn't mean the Judge can't see it. You will all answer for your sins and for judging others.

Exactly. I said I think he is a WRESTLING hero. Don't try to sound smart and reverse my words. Yes, he who judges. I didn't say specifically who judges therefore it is not a judgment of an individual but an omen instead. You are entitled to do whatever you want but you need to educate yourself further before opening your mouth.

I think you need to chill out. I don't recall twisting your words. I think that's an assumption on your part.

Because I live in the city hailing a murderer a hero. That does bother me. I'm entitled to be disgusted. If he were just some normal guy off the street who killed his wife and child and then himself, no one would call him a hero, but because he's a wrestler, he is? This line of thinking is sick and perverse, and right in line with our society's twisted thinking that celebrities are demi-gods of some sort. And my evil? I notice your profile contains the quote "May you who judge also be prematurely judged and condemned". Funny that. Practice what you preach. That sounds like a judgement to me. I don't care at all whether or not you're his biggest fan and that you idolized him, as you obviously do. Great wrestler he may have been, but great person he obviously was not. Heroes don't murder their families. It's one thing to respect Chris Benoit: The Wrestler, and completely another to respect Chris Benoit: The Person.

Why would he be a hero? If he was such a coward to kill his son and his wife, and then to hang himself, how does that make him a hero?
