How dumb can I be?

That was the question I first asked myself yesterday. Let me set the scene. We were at my in-laws "land." It's wooded acres, with extemely sandy soil. There are also more gophers per acre than there are prarie dogs in S. Dakota! (not really, but I'm painting a picture!) Anyway, we arrived at the farm, did some gardening and other work, then I decided to unload the pick-up. I pulled our cooler out of the bed. wasn't watching where I was walking, and stepped into the soft sandy mound that a silly gopher made. Grrr... I asked that question, "how dumb can I be?" Then the Good Lord told me. My world went black with pain! I was paralyzed in agony. I cried, screamed, and whined. Fortunately, my hubby wasn't too far off, and did his best to get me settled down. He settled me into a lounge chair, and took the ice packs out of the cooler (Thank GOD he packed them!) and wrapped up my ankle. After about an hour, the pain subsided and I could see again. My children were absolutely the best helpers on the planet, doing what they could to keep me entertained. (it's horrible to be in the woods with NOTHING to do!) By the time we went home (in the early evening) the ankle was good enough to at least stand on. I hobbled up the stairs, took a shower and went to bed. Dear Hubby took care of everything else. (Bless him!) This morning, I have a purple baseball sticking out of my ankle due to swelling. I'm having a hard time walking on it this morning, but it will losen up, and I'll be OK. I may milk this ankle bit a bit longer than I need too, just so my kids behave, though. :) So, what is the moral of my story you ask? Well, just like Aesop, I have one... Don't ever ask God how dumb you are, cuz he WILL answer you! HA HA HA! Have a great day!!!

lol that is a great story! I hope your ankle is feeling better. I hope you can milk it some too! I would love something to make my kids behave for a bit lol.

the kids are behaving a little bit. They are tired and hot, though, so it makes it difficult. The ankle is better. I will say it's hard to tell where my knee stops and the ankle starts (except for the purple spots!) It's swollen that bad. I can walk on it, though, so it can't be THAT bad. :) Glad I could entertain you a bit. :)

Did you get it x-rayed? I did something similar with similar looking results. I figured it was a sprain and went about my life for a day or two until my family insisted I have it checked. I'd broken a bone in my foot and ended up in a walking cast. I hope you are "just" strained and not broken. Don't minimize the discomfort of a strain, however.

Thank you, youdontsay for your concern. I'm sure it's just sprained. The swelling is down quite a bit. It's still a little tender but not bad. I can walk on it, bend it, and take steps, as long as I do it the "right" way, and not bend the ankle too much. It will take some time, but I'll get my leg back to normal soon enough. :)
