Does anyone whisper in public?

When I was a kid my mom would shush me in a very loud embarrassing whisper, which I am sure everyone heard. And, I always wondered if she actually thought she was being discreet. Nowadays, if I am going to say something to my little kid in public, I don't care who hears. Chances are they don't care anyway. And, if they do, they shouldn't be listening anyway. What about you? Do you whisper in public when you are scolding your kids? Or, do you let it all hang out for the world to see?
