I am completely redoing the website for the company I work for. We currently have a web traffic tracker installed on the web server through the hosting company, but I am pretty sure the numbers are not accurate whatsoever and you can not research traffic from prior months.
Is there a simple way to track web sites? Possibly something that can be built into the code not a program that can be installed on the web server (we don't have access to it and they will not let us install a tracker program).
I really need something more complex than an invisible counter as I would like to know unique hits and be able to separate the hits out by month.

I personally feel and use www.statcounter.com they are the best in the business in web statistics. They display all sorts of information you want from your visitors all accurately and perfectly. They even have the feature of looking up ip address, block certain ip addresses, country based statistics, and recent visitor activities, and how they leave your page, etc. I would certainly recommend you that for sure.
I have been using it for quite some time for my websites and they are amazing and i track all my users through that only.
