Let me just share what I will do when I am looking for a computer or notebook.
1) What is my budget?
2) What am I using for or why I am buying it?
3) Do I need more RAM, processing power, hard-disk space, graphics cards?
4) How much support do I need?
5) Which "brand" or supplier is more reliable.
Of course, I will buy from a more reliable vendor. Brand is not an issue to me as I could be paying for brandname with the same configurations as X brand.

I think you have to consider how much is your budget, then if you have particular brand. Also consider the cpu (processor type), computer speed, how many RAM say 1GB, the size of the notebook or the style you want it carries the monitor size. Check also the storage capacity or the harddisk eg. 40GB HDD. You may consider having dvd/cd-rw combo. Consider other components if you want to have your notebook with bluetooth, infrared, wifi, grid vista..etc.. HOpe these helps.
