Can anyone recommend a good block set?

I got my son a small block set, sorta like legos for his birthday. It came with a farm house and some animals. It sings and has animal sounds. He really likes to play with it! I wanted to get him another block set of just blocks because I think he would have fun stacking them up and knocking them over. I'm not sure whether to get plastic or wood blocks, or what kind a one year old would be able to use better. Does anyone know of any good block sets that my son might like? Thanks in advance!

We have Peek a blocks with both my kids loved and still do. I highly recommend Melissa & Doug cardboard blocks. They are big so when he starts walking they are really easy to stack. A little big for the sitting stage. We also have a bag of foam blocks. They are great. No need to worry about them hurting themselves with the blocks. We have wooden onesbut I know both kids ate paint chips because lets face it kids eat everything. The foam blocks are by Imaginarium. Highly highly recommend them!

I went to Walmart and do you know they didnt' have ANY children's blocks at all? Not one set! I then went to Toys R Us, and they did have the peek a blocks, but I thought they were high. I might get some for him for Christmas though. I also say the Imaginarium foam blocks, and almost bought them, but decided not to. I got him a big bag of Mega Blocks for children 1+. We played with them yesterday, but he didn't figure out how to stack them yet. Maybe soon.
