I always have the captions on when I watch tv. I have trouble hearing sometimes and sometimes the characters mumble. I also read somewhere that it keeps your brain sharp and wards off Alzheimer's. Another thing I heard is that it is a sneaky way to keep kids reading. They are watching tv and reading the captions at the same time.

Oh how smart- I have to admit it would drive me crazy!! but what a great way to get the kids reading- if they actually pay attention to the words. I probably would ignore them- But I say whatever works for you!

Oh gee, I do that too! I always keep the caption feature on. I have gotten somewhat hard of hearing over the years (something that happens to farmers frequently from driving tractors and working with loud machinery.) I find that if I have the volume up sometimes it bothers others. With the captions on at least I can tell if I missed something vital to the plot, or tell what the characters are saying when they are whispering to each other (or talking low.) I have to agree that it probably does help with kids reading; repeated sight recognition of words would seem to always a help. I never heard about it keeping the brain sharp, but that also makes sense. I have found, however, that there are some people who find that having the caption feature on drives them to distraction, lol. So, I usually will compromise and turn the volume up a little, and the caption feature off.
