back in my previous job when I just graduated, I found that it is so hot and uncomfortable to wear the long sleeves shirt to go to work... the worst thing about it is, we wear the long sleeves shirt, only to get to the office to sit behind the desk in some dingy lab(without windows) to do coding. i can understand if we dress up for a presentation, or meeting clients to discuss business , so on so forth... i mean, what is the point of wearing the long sleeves shirt, all uncomfortable, just to hide from the world to do some back end job, in a lousy room filled with machines? we don't need to meet customers... we don't need to face anyone, for that matter, except for the project leader Do you feel the same way?

yeah, i understand, it can be so damn frustrating, especially if you are in a hot and humid country like singapore. But dress codes are important too, otherwise people just dress awkwardly, raunchily, etc all in the name of fashion. To maintain the discipline and to create a working environment, dress code should be employed. It is an office, afterall and not a pub or discotheque or some fun place. So, it makes sense. But you have every right to feel that way as you did, but nobody can help it, unfortunately:p And, no, i don't feel the same way as you do, its pretty cool out here in India, seasons keep on changing at regular intervals. I hate long sleeves like you though. p.s; what's the national language of singapore? What religion do most singaporeans practise? Just curious to know.

Here in our office, we do have a uniform or a dress code. Men are required to use long sleeves during Mondays while short sleeves for the rest of the workweek. They aren't really faced with this issue because we are in an airconditioned office. However, when they go outdoors, they have the option to change their uniforms to shirts. But upon going back to work inside the office, they should wear the uniform again. One of my officemates, a senior manager in particular, really hates using the uniform. His reason is that our uniform is uncomfortable to use. I guess the rules should be reviewed in your previous work.

ah... if there is a uniform, and the uniform is a long sleeve shirt, then it is a different argument altogether. Cos one does not really have a choice in what one wears to work due to the existence of a uniform. Even in an air-condition office... it is the commute to work... riding in packed buses or trains that makes one sweat the most. Once in the office, it is ok... cos of the air-conditioner, one dun sweat much. It is during the commute to work that one sweats the most... esp if that day is particularly hot! ;)

huh? Contrary to keeping me fresh by having the shirt absorb the sweat, it makes me feel worse! Cos in the humid weather, i sweat excessively. and with the cotton shirt soaking up the sweat, it make the whole shirt really sticky! And it gets worst when the shirt dries... sometimes, the sweating is so bad, I have to change my shirt and put talcum powder sparingly cos of the smells. I am really thankful that my new job environment, I dun sweat as much as before. :p

In our place there are some companies which demands dress codes with long sleeves shirt and to tuck the shirt in. Actually, I do not like the dress codes for work very much. I think dress code should not be there for jobs unless in the formal meetings or meetings that take place in other companies.

I totally agree with you on that. Cos it is really redundant to be dressing up for work when no one ever sees your dressing. Especially if you are working in some back end dingy room as an administrator or a clerk filing papers. But then again, the mindset of the bosses are different. Cos to them, when you walk out on the street, you represent the company. If you do not project a professional enough image, you affect the company's image as well. Duh~~~! Like we carry a big sign on our head telling the whole world where we are working. *roll eyes*
