Although I have never had seizures nor has anyone in my family; I have had many friends and previous clients have seizures in my presence. Every day when I turn on my computer I am reminded of this; sometimes by peoples' avatars that blink, sometimes by the sparkely pretties we use as comments on each others' pages, but mostly by the blaring and glaring ads that pop up and assault us "YOU ARE THE 100TH VISITOR AND HAVE WON A ---------". When I see these things I often wonder if anyone with a seizure disorder is affected by them. If so, how do you deal with it? Do you have a way to block them out of your vision? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer this.~Donna

I have never had seizures neither. I have seen people have them, it is so scary to witness that. I do know that some of the flash pages and images we see all the time can trigger seizures in some people. Its got to be scary for those that have that problem. It will be interesting to read some of the answers.

I've only had one seizure in my life and that was from taking too many over the counter pain pills to kill off the pain from a tooth ache. I never stopped to think about those flashing banners but I know that almost every video game I have ever played as had some type of warning on the package or insert about the possibility that the game could cause seizures.

That was something I didn't think of. The only games I play are with my grandchildren on Webkinz (okay, sometimes I play by myself, but they don't have blinking ones that I can think of). As far as your seizure goes, that must have been terribly frightening. In all honesty, I didn't know (or maybe I didn't remember) that an overdose of medication can cause a seizure. Thanks for bringing that up. ~Donna

I guess some people are just lucky with this one because I know that I am. I don't get seizures just from looking at certain things like that at all.

Donna, it is most annoying, and I have to turn my head away. There are way to many things in life that you would never think of as flashing lights, but many of us with seizures notice and have to turn our heads away. One of my friends even wears sunglasses that are so dark I wonder how she sees at all.Driving or riding down a road with trees on the side and the sun shining through them is suddenly dangerous. ceiling fans by flouresent lights in stores can create a strobe effect. flashing Christmas lights are no longer pretty. The tv is one of the worst culprits. There are flashy sequenses in almost all shows.I am very well controlled by my meds, but a strobe effect automatically makes me turn my head without thinking. I really appreciate special shows and acts in museums and such that warn of the danger to epileptics and give us a nice comfy area to wait while our families enjoy the show.

Thank you for your comment. I am aware of the sunlight as one of the clients I had many years ago liked the effect that seizures gave her and would intentionally sit in direct sunlight and rapidly move her head back and forth to induce a seizure. I am very surprised that there isn't some sort of screen or device that could be used over computers and televisions to help with this problem. ~Donna
