What is VPS hosting

I seen this on another forum and was wondering what they meant by VPS. I didn't want to look like an idiot over there so I thought that I would use mylot to look like an idiot instead. If anyone could please explain this to me I would appreciate it.

I can tell you that VPS stands for Virtual Private Servers for individuals who want complete control over their own servers. You can install your own software, etc. I'm guessing there's probably more to it, but I'm not a computer geek so I don't know the advantages or disadvantages.

I should have done this also but I always come to mylot when I need an answer for something so that i can get paid for letting everyone else find the answer for me. Your answer was appreciated.
