Get the fizzle?

You're writing away, working on a new great idea that you've had. The next Great American Novel -- or maybe it's just a novella, but it doesn't matter because it's coming and it's good. Then it happens... *pop* *fizz* *fizzle* The idea that started out so great vanished, evaporated. You're in the middle of something you thought would be great with no idea where to go. What do you do? I try for a few days more, saving everything that I've rejected, just in case. Then if it doesn't start back up I put it away, but always save it. Just in case. Sometimes if I'm in the mood I'll write an outline for it, just so that when I find it again months later I know what it is and what I had intended to do with it -- sometimes that sparks a few more pages at the very least.

It's funny how the experts tell you to set goals for yourself so that you plant your butt in the chair and just write. I set a goal of having my novel finished and ready to go by the end of 2006, then it was the end of spring 2007, then I was going to have it done by the end of this month because someone else who is going to read it says August is a good time for her. It doesn't look like it's going to end up in her hands because I have come to a screeching halt. The last person who reviewed it thinks a section I have doesn't fit the story, and I love the section and the metaphors. I don't want to get rid of it. Maybe I can downplay the aspect that she is referring to but I need time to think on it. Whose got time?

I do that a lot when I'm writing for AC. They are supposed to be at least 400 words. I'll have this great idea and get about 300 words and then it just comes to a screeching halt. So, I put it up for a few days and hopefully go back and finish it later. I hate when that happens, though. It's annoying!!
