Stray Dog Euthanized

You may have heard about that run away dog authorities caught at the Sky Harbor airport in Arizona...but did you hear now that they "Had To" euthanize it? This story really makes me upset because the reason they had to euthanize it is just stupid! The dog was "a little underweight and timid..." Who cares! Give it to me, I'll feed it and play with it! There, problem solved. They didn't have to euthanize such a beautiful dog!

Gee !!! thats a bit harsh..Why didnt they give it a chance...? A runaway dog, of course it will be skinny, and timid , of course it would be, at an airport..It wouldnt know what was going and would have been so petrified..I just dont understand, why people do not have the patience..

They say it's because they don't have the room for all t animals and stuff. But that doesn't fly with me. This was a beautiful dog and they wouldn't have had any trouble finding a foster family for it.

Some, (not I) would say that it was the right thing to do. This saddens me. They should at least try to get adoptions of these animals, but so many thousands each year are euthanized. An argument for spaying and neutering--a practice that I find questionable, but when you look at the alternatives... Let's just wait and see what we start doing to our own species as our population continues to grow so rapidly...

I hate how the people in charge of such decisions are never willing to go just a step further and they take the easy way out at someone elses expense (the animal's.) I was a dog officer, a rogue dog officer at that, because, i would build shelters if i didnt have one to fit an animal, I would pay for the operations that the state wouldnt and the extra food to keep animals alive until adopted. They shouldnt take the job if they dont have the initiative to care in the extreme.I'm sorry for this dog's life.

This is the first that I heard about it. What a stupid reason but sadly, what pyewacket says is true. What kind of dog was it? Do you have a link to a news article? I would like to see it. Well maybe not because it will probably make me cry.

I hate to say it Lily, but this is pretty standard practice for any pet taken in by any shelter, especially something like Animal Care and Control, of whom I hate with a passion....they only like "healthy" looking pets that they won't have to fuss with, that is take care of too extensively..same thing if it's an older pet....You have to realize that shelters are crammed to overflowing and need all the space possible for the healthier pets--and another sad fact, is that even the HEALTHY pets get euthanized since many develop what is known as "kennel cough"--So bottom line, if an animal just doesn't look healthy, no matter who captures the animal, it'll be put down..I know it sux..but that's the policy

thats crazy..i don't think its fair to say they are timid and underweight so lets kill them..ugh! i cant believe they had a peanut brain for that..they must have look for a shelter for them till someone adopts them..they can feed them to be healthy again..but why kill..i cant imagine them doing that..they could have given me the dogs instead if i only could..i love dogs and i don't wanna think what if thats my Raggy they are gonna kill..

You would think they could have found someone like yourself, that would have took that dog on and helped it rather than killed it. I am sure the media could have done something. Here we have a pet of the day on one channel that will spot light an animal that needs a home, and these animals are adopted within a couple of days. It just takes getting word out and someone would have taken it. IMO anyway.

This is just another reason that you have to SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!! The shelters are over flowing, and there are so many "designer" cats and dogs out there that people buy, that our shelters are overflowing with "unwanted" animals. It costs money to feed and shelter and nurse and animal back to health. It's sad, and I hate that they euthanize animals, but it's just the policy that they have. I've always gone to shelters to get my pets.
