Do you have any recipes you just throw together? Has anyone asked you to write down the recipe? What do you write?
My husband was sick and I couldn't get him to eat. I told him I'd make anything he wanted. He wanted peanut butter cookies. That was my least favorite cookie, so I really didn't know how to make them. I looked in some cookbooks and I either didn't have the ingredients or they didn't sound very good. So I just threw together what I had. He ate them and he loved them. I even like them. When the sugar war-off, he was hungry for real food. Eventually, he got better.
Here is my "throw it together" recipe:
Peanut Butter Cookies
1 jar of no salt, no sugar added natural peanut butter (that was already stirred and in the refrigerator)
1 small can of Condensed Sweetened milk
1 to 3 eggs (optional)
1 bag of self-rising flour
Take one large bowl and one large spoon from the cupboards. You will also need a small bowl and a fork if you want to use eggs. Also get out your sifter. You also need a cookie sheet. Small spoon for dropping on the cookie sheet.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
1. Open the can of sweetened condensed milk and pour into large bowl. (If you are using eggs, break them into the small bowl, pierce with a fork and stir until the yoke and white have blended. Then pour into the condensed milk and stir until blended.)
2. Use half a jar of peanut butter (a little more if you like more or want to get rid of more peanut butter, a little less if that's all you have or you want a little less)- just "eyeball it", don't bother to measure. Dump it in and stir it until everything is mixed together well.
3. Pour some self-rising flour into your sifter. Sift a little into the bowl -approximate about 1/3 as much as you see liquid at a time, don't measure, use your eyes- , stir, sift some more flour, stir, sift stir, until you have a batter that is the consistancy of drop cookies.
4. Drop by spoonfuls onto the cookie sheet and make sure there is space all around each cookie so it can cook.
My Husbands version (when he got better, he made them himself and changed it to what he was used to) is to take a fork and push down in the middle. Then pick up the fork and move a quarter over and come down with the for again to make cross-hatches. They cook faster and it makes a denser, more traditional cookie.
My version is to just let them rise and cook. This gets them faster on the cookie sheet and faster in the oven. Also tastes more like a miniture peanut butter cake than a cookie.
At any rate, only cook until the outer edges are brown. The rest of the cookie will be pale in my version. In my husband's version, the brown covers a little more area.
I gave you my throw it together recipe. What's yours? How did you get it or develop it?
I love recipes and cooking stories. So much fun!

i have a receipe with potatoe chips if you like them.its simple and quick.you need 1/2 pound of butter,1/2 cup of sugar,1 teaspoon of vanilla,1 3/4 cups of flour, and 3/4 cups of crushed potatoe chips.in a large bowl with the butter, sugar, and vanilla.add flour a little at a time until dough is smooth.add potatoe chips last, folding in.you can drop these cookies by rounded tabelspoons onto a cookie sheet or you can shape them into a ball.bake in a pre heated oven for 15 minutes on 350 or until golden brown.they are actually pretty good.i just gave it a shot one day,i had my potatoe chips laying there just staring at me,and i just thought of trying to make a recipe out of them.i love to come up with different ideas that are enjoyable to my family, friends, and kids.

I was hoping to find a recipe like this. My ex-boyfriend made a desert something like what you wrote, but I think with jello and potato chips that was sweet and salty (not that I'm supposed to have either one). But I figure once a year I could make it. They were pretty good. Yours are a cookie, his was like a bar desert.
I think the cookie idea is great. You made this up by just throwing things together? How did you know it would work out?
So this is a new recipe. I'll have to try it. Potato chips in big bags can get stale if not used. This is very useful. I think it's cool that you come up with different ideas for people you care about. Thank you.

This is a 'Throw it together' cake:
You will need
1 1/2 cups white sugar ,2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda ,1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon ,1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2 eggs ,1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup chopped pecans ,1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves. Add the eggs and oil, mix until well blended, then stir in the pecans and apple filling. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.

Well, it just so happens, that Rachel Ray is a Northern NY State girl, too. She went back to her home town and school to encourage people to go for their dreams. So if it's thrown together and that's her style, we're all the more proud of her.
Can your wife get on here and put some great recipes? She sounds like a real jewel. If not, can she tell you and you write it? What's your favorite thrown together meal from her?
