Yes, it is possible. Most people have three levels so to speak of brain consciousness and mostly use just one. One thing that made Albert Einstein such a genius was that he had 5 levels and used 3. You can be sure he would think without talking to himself on at least 2 if not all 3 of those levels. On rare occasions I have been aware of using 2 levels and that awareness comes close to using a third in other words the third is observing the other 2 that are being used. It would be hard to use more than one level and to talk to your self on all of them that are in use.

Well if you don't communicate to yourself, I don't see how it could be called thinking or could even occur.

We all are social animals, so we could not live alone. We need our partner or companion to share our happiness and worries with. In case we do not get such personality then we start to talk with ourself. This something natural.

I talk to myself all the time. And I freely tell people the most interesting conversations I have are with myself. Thinking out loud is so much quicker and easier than having a pen and paper ready at all times to go over your thoughts later. And I appreciate people who think out loud. I know what they are going to say in response to anything. Then I can also be prepared.(Sometimes it is necessary to start singing when you are caught thinking out loud. People don't find this nearly as loony!)
