Which one or combination of the following ways do you power your home?:
1. Electrical Power Grid / Power Utility Company
2. Alternate Energy-Sun, Wind, Hydro
3. Generator using fossil fuel
4. Sweet of your brow--Chop wood, make your own candles, clarify used oil, bicycle power, etc.
5. Other? Animal on a treadmill, something I haven't listed so far?
I'm hoping to get people from each one of these plus people who use a combination.

Our state has a percentage of electricity that comes from wind. We have super-huge windmills going in in our area, too. So a larger percentage of our energy should come from wind, too.

We use electricity and we also have a gas furnace. We really should get a new one, but that would mean we would have to re-insulate the basement. The former owners were cheapskates --used half insulation and we were thinking of converting to the geo thermo energy, but that would entail digging a big hole (and getting the neighbors wondering whether we plan to kill somebody and bury the bodies there.) I heard of the Electrical Power Grid (watch 'Holmes on Holmes") but I think it is for new construction.

You power your home by gas and electricity.
Our gas water heater was not vented to the outside. I didn't know that, so I kept getting sick. Sometimes cheapskates can be dangerous, but I understand not having enough money. However, I think, in my case, they should have picked their times to be cheap. Taht was dangerous and the house could have blown up.
I think goe energy would be really cool.
If you don't get your electricity from a power grid, where do you get it from? Is there a central utility there? Do you create your own electricity with photovoltaic (solar energy) cells?
My home is electric with a fuel oil burner for a heater. We had to get rid of the gas because my husband can't smell and trying to vent the gas would probably not work very well in a basement that wasn't built to do that. We may change to more diverse power because we've had frequent power outages and the price of power keeps going up.
We may also have to move, there is a proposal for an overhead highway one field away from us, so we're looking for other options.
I wish geo thermal was an option where we live. It's not. It sounds like a cool idea, maybe you should look into it.

Mostly in India we are relying with government electricity system in most cities. Except commercial buildings no domesic buildings fitted with self device for electricity. Reason is if we are using solar power the battery for this purpose is scarce in India but sunshine is a lot in India , even the government not under the purview for solar power. So electricity saving in India really matters most due to rely on government system.

Interesting, India does seem like it would be a wonderful place for Solar Energy. Is the government system based on dams? Or do they use something besides water and turbines?
