What do you do when someone shows you down?

It used to affect me earlier and I wasted precious time thinking about how hurt I was. But now I don't care. There are all kinds of people in this world who think they are the cat's whiskers and its below their dignity to interact with you or even talk to you. I hate snobs and I hate affectations. I just shrug and move away. Their loss. What would you do if in a gathering you are ignored or insulted in some way? Would you retaliate or simply walk away?
